EdII

Anyone know if there’s any difference in selectivity between EDI and EDII? Seems like by EDII they may be more conservative in their acceptances because they’ve already admitted a bunch of EDI’s… hope not! I also hope they don’t think people applying EDII were rejected from their top choice school EDI…that’s not the case for me; just took me and my parents a while to decide for sure, and my school has this crazy 3-week-in-advance-of-the-college-deadline deadline. My app was sent out about a week ago… gah I hate having to wait till Feb. now! I love Bates so much! I just hope EDII vs. EDI won’t screw me over.

Btw, is anyone else out there applying EDII??

anybody...?

i think its harder to get in EDII for the reasons you mentioned..someone on here said the acceptance rate for EDII is the same as for regular (27%)

Actually, the person you mentioned realized afterwards that admissions had only told him the overall ED rate, which they claimed was the same as RD. I find that hard to believe; in the past the ED rate has always been higher, so unless EDI was off the wall this year and they could only admit 27%, I think they were just being anal for whatever reason- I don't think they like to admit it's easier to get in ED and therefore try to play it down.
I don't think it would be fair to have a lower EDII rate than EDI rate, since, after all, we are signing the same contract. Well, time will tell!

Hey morningview. BTW, what's your name? I'm sorry that I may have given you wrong information about ED II - I'm also quite confused. I don't understand why they make these statistics so engimatic. I highly doubt that the admit rate for ED is 28 percent- even if it is lower than 45 percent I doubt it's as low as regular. Well, I've sent everything out to Bates- it would be really great to meet you and everyone else on this site who got into Bates in person next year.

morningview: its not like they decide theyre admissions rate is going to be lower EDII to be unfair. theyre not sitting at their desks being like, how can we be really unfair? just because you are signing the same contract as edI, there are several reasons why the EDII rate is a little lower than EDI:

1) sure, you are the signing the same contract. but yet you did not sign that contract back in november, and so i am guessing they mostly assume people applying edII either couldnt get their act together in november, didn't really want to go in november, or were deferred/rejected from their REAL first choice, which they applied to EDI. thus, you are not really making the same statement edII as you are ED1--ed1 you are saying, this is my absolute firstr choice school, this is the one school i want to attend.

2) they sometimes have no control over their rate of acceptance--it all depends on the number of applicants they have. a few years ago their EDI acceptance rate was 35%--only 9% higher than their RD rate. it wasnt that theyre trying to make you unhappy, they just cant control how many ED applicants they will have. plus, if they have accepted a lot of people edI, they will be less inclined to take lots of edII kids before theyve even considered the 4500 regular applicants they have to choose from.

Well, that surely brightened my day... I'm guessing that ED II is slightly lower than ED I. And I think applying ED II does signify your devotion to a school, you could have always just applied regular. And even if ED II kids applied somewhere else ED I, the ED II school is still their second choice out of thousands of schools in the nation. Why would they even have such a thing as ED II if its such a burden on the school's part and so clear that kids might not really want to go there. I appreciate your input but like you said I think the rate just differs each year- and hopefully it will benefit both me and morningview this year.

you def have a much better shot edII. plus less kids apply edII than any other round. didnt mean to discourage you, even with a 40% edII rate those are pretty good odds..much better than 27%

Eric- my name's Regina by the way lol. Don't worry about getting the wrong info- this is all sooo confusing. I had a great break from it all over Christmas, but I'm sure the next month is going to be big time worrying. I really hope both of us get in, and we'll have to meet up if we do!
