would it make a difference in my college apps?

if i'm an assistant section editor on a newspaper (basically splitting the work with the editor i guess, but only given the title of "assistant" at school)

but since i'm assisting in editing, could i write that i was the section editor on my college apps?

Just be honest and put assistant editor.

I don't think it will make a difference as far as admissions, but will be a plus for your app for being accurate :)

i see your point, but the ad coms don't really have that much time to check what specific title i was

and we've had two editors for each section until they decided to change one of them to assistant editor instead this year -_-

assistant editor

i believe in the karma thing you know
what goes around, comes around

lying will NEVER do you good =)

It won't make a difference anyway. College admissions are made by under paid, tired out people who have to go through hundreds of applications per week. All they will see is what you write on your EC section. It won't make much of an impact in their perception of you in an overall fashion.

i'm not sure there's such a big differnce between the two on your college app!!

Don't fudge. Be proud of your accomplishment. There's nothing wrong with being an assistant editor, and if that is your "title", then that's your answer.
Now, when you are writing up your activity sheet, you can spell out what you did -"shared responsibility of such and such section" or however you feel it is most representative of your work.

My son came home sophomore year and said, jokingly, he'd been given a "prestigious position" on the yearbook : Co-Assistant Head Photographer!
While the position didn't sound that great, he actually was responsible for much of the photography that went into the book. The following year they asked him to be Co-Editor-in-Chief. And yes, he put "Co-" on his apps.

Colleges won't see much difference between an assistant editor and an editor because they don't know what the titles mean at each school, and how much work and responsibiltity each entails. That's why it's good to flush out your activities on a separate sheet, as well as filling in the little boxes.
But it's very important to be truthful to the best of your ability. They may not know, but you will, and this kind of fudging is not good for one's health and self-esteem in the long run. (see thread on Marilee Jones!)
