If you were an admissions officer, which of these positions would you like more?

If I'm applying to Wharton, do you think being the "Senior Business Editor" for 2 years would be better than being editor in chief of my school magazine? This is NOT my most important extracurricular by the way. I have at least 5-6 leadership positions.

Thanks!

They sound like the same thing .fluffing it up too much will make it sound artificial bud… best of luck!

Senior business editor is super easy…whereas editor in chief you have to compete against like 8 other writers for the position. They are not the same thing, but if you were an AO, which would you like to see?

You’re applying to Wharton, so business ECs are good. When applying to an Ivy, you should always have leadership positions. So, in your list of ECs, what is lacking most? Leadership or business roles? If you have enough leadership and adding more would make it looking like padding, go with business. Likewise, if you have enough business and want more leadership, go with editor in chief.

If I were a Wharton AO, I assume every applicant would have some sort of business and leadership EC, so for me the key would be a) how impressive are the ECs and b) balance between them.

Editor-in-Chief is a more impressive position with more significant responsibilities and presumably greater competition.

Agreed. That said, don’t lobby for a position just for the sake of putting it on a college app. AO’s see right through that.

If I have a ton of leadership, like Model UN, Varsity tennis captain, Mu Alpha Theta, etc. but are not really business related, should I choose senior business editor then?

Put both and the years you did each job. But if I had to pick one it would be Editor-in-chief. Having the ultimate responsibility of that position will be more meaningful.

I would either be a writer for 2 years and MAYBE be editor in chief, or senior business editor for 2 years. Which one would you choose? Wouldn’t senior business editor sound better for Wharton?

Bump

The level of business skills you would acquire in that position (not much) will not make a difference to a business school. But a position with serious responsibility might.

True…this is even more confusing then! Many conflicting opinions

Sorry if I didn’t make myself clear. Like everyone else with an opinion on this thread, I suggest you go for editor-in-chief.

Oh sorry a lot of people in another thread mentioned that senior business editor would be more applicable, since I already have a ton of other leadership positions. They said SBE would give more depth into my app instead of just a bunch of random ones like MUN VP, Mu Alpha Theta president, etc.

Bumpppppppppppppp

What does a high school “Senior Business Editor” do? Does your HS have a lot of breaking business news?

Nope. The editor usually organizes bake sales, calls businesses for advertisements, etc. Literally just a study period but it sounds really pro
