EE Schools

I am looking to finalize my list of "apply to" schools. Here is what I have. Would anyone suggest more than 5? I would like to keep it from 5 to 7, as I have six different colleges to request transcripts from and it can get pretty costly.

Rose Hulman
UT Austin
Texas A&M
Colorado School of Mines

Thought about adding Rice to the list, but of late I am thinking of not even wasting the app. It was my 5th, but they frown on 2nd degree seekers. I will be applying as a transfer but have a BS in Organizational Management. Plus I am interested in larger more connected programs. I would be happy with RH because I am using my GI Bill. A&M frowns on 2nd degree seekers as well, but they have a well connected program and are outstanding for EE I have heard... Have to chance it.

Looking for moderate Cost of Living areas (have a family)
Preferably Texas or Mid-West
Outstanding for EE

Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! UIUC? Not interested in East Cost. Did consider WUSTL, but unsure of their EE program. Help please. I am ready to start requesting transcripts and start applying.

Both UIUC and University of Wisconsin @ Madison have very good EE program.

Thanks TippuSultan. I really want to apply to some great fit schools and have been doing my homework here on CC, but am at a loss, so to speak, for additional schools to apply to -or even a good number to shoot for. Deciding ‘Reach’ and ‘Saftey’ schools have me pretty confused as well.
Can anyone point me to some other well regarded EE schools that meet the simple desirables I mentioned above? Advise on a good target to shoot for as far as total number of applications for schools that are fair fit?
If I were to apply to some of the more prestigious schools perhaps I will make it work for the sake of earning a degree from a top tier university, but I just have a hard time envisioning trying to stay in California with the COL so high. I am aware that if an institution is ultra tier, then it will most likely be in a more expensive area to live, but I guess I am just struggling with if it will actually be worth it to stick it out. For example I am considering Stanford, but the COL would be through the roof… if I were to be accepted though, I think it would definately be worth it.
