I'm a senior applying to UCB EECS.
Which ACT score should I send?

34 English, 34 Math, 35 Science, 30 Reading. Cumulative=33
34 English, 34 Math, 33 Science, 33 Reading. Cumulative=34

You are supposed to send all.

Oh thanks. I thought we just sent the highest one … But if I send both, Berkeley will only look at the highest sitting so I was only going to send my best score (the SAT sends all scores, but the ACT only sends the ones I pay for). For engineering, which is the better sitting?

Honestly, just send both your scores (which you’re SUPPOSED to do, anyway). The admission council isn’t trying to reject applicants. They’re trying to look for ways to ADMIT them; thus, the council will choose whichever score they think puts you in the best light.

Thanks for your thoughts. I’d like to think that they are trying to admit and not reject, but EECS is pretty competitive so that’s why I thought it made sense to only submit my best score. I still don’t know what to do, but I’ll think about it. I know I’m supposed to send them all, but I’m not sure that will help. I have a couple more weeks to decide. Thank you for your comments. You could be right.

Keep in mind that EECS is such a competitive major to get into that your scores will matter a lot less than the essay + ECs. Most people applying to engineering will have good scores (2200s, 33+ ACT scores, etc) that I almost 100% guarantee you that an acceptance or rejection in March will NOT be because of your standardized test scores.

Regardless of whichever decision you choose, I wish you the best of luck in the admissions process.

@berkeley17 … really, do you think so? I’d love for that to be true. I thought grades and test scores were #1 and #2 for frosh admission. UCs don’t superscore so I was thinking about taking it again (but I really don’t want to). I think the registration date has passed anyway. Well, I’ll work harder on the essays. And pray. lol Thanks for the good wishes!

ucbalumnus, where does it say that in UC’s current policy? This was true previously, but nowhere does it say that’s true now.
If you are referring to the grouped bullet point on http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/freshman/requirements/examination-requirement/:”
In the College Board’s Score Choice module, ensure that all scores are sent to UC. We require all scores and will use the highest scores from a single administration.”

This says all SAT scores need to be sent, not ACT scores, because the phrase “all scores” is ambiguous, and can refer to all scores in the Score choice module, and not the ACT as well. There would likely be a separate bullet point for the ACT if this were the case.

Thanks everyone for your comments. Like abcde12345f, I thought we didn’t have to send all sittings of the ACT (and that’s also what my counselor said). I decided to send my first sitting. It’s lower, but I’m applying to EECS so I think the higher science score would look better. If I sent both, they would only look at the highest sitting, which has the lower science score.

I’ll let you all know if I get in!
