I'm not really into hardcore programming, but I am interested in things like Information Security and Information Systems. Should I apply for the College of Engineering in Computer Science (which I heard is really hard to get in to) or in to College of Letters and Science for Computer Science (easier but more humanities stuff which I really don't care about)? My stats are pretty good for either but I don't think I rank very well against some of the hardcore programmers in the College of Engineering. I don't want to go super deep into programming, more into its application like for security.

UCB has School of Information.

I am not sure it has undergraduate program though.

CSU Los Angeles, Northridge, Chico have undergraduate information technology major.

For Berkeley, EECS and L&S CS majors choose from the same CS courses. Either major is a very technically oriented major. EECS has more physics, math, and EE course requirements.

Information systems is typically a business-based major with lightweight computer management type courses. However, this does not appear to be an option in Berkeley’s undergraduate business major.

Cryptography is under CS under engineering at my daughter’s school.
But It also offers BA under CSE but with much less required courses for CS. You have more freedom to take more courses. But technically it’s hard to get into CS period BA or BS. Unlike UCB.

Hello, I’m also confused about the difference between CS and CSE. Does it mean going to universities that offer Computer Science and Engineering program give us the same as what we take in CS PLUS CE?
I’m interested in UCI and they offer both CS and CSE. Help!

Flyer888, googling “UCI CS” makes it straightforward:

CS: http://www.ics.uci.edu/ugrad/degrees/CS_Checklist_13-14.pdf
CSE: http://www.ics.uci.edu/ugrad/degrees/CSE_Checklist_13-14.pdf

There is also a software engineering major. For CS and CSE, at UCI, CSE can be viewed as an alias for CE (it is very similar to the CE program). This does not guarantee that CSE is always an alias for CE. In these cases, searching for the major requirements on a school website will inform you of the major content.
