Ok, so here's the deal..........................................................................................................................................................................

SAT: 2110 (740 CR, 630 M, 740 W)
SAT II: 760 Literature, 750 US History

GPA: ~4.3 weighted, 3.86 unweighted
Rank: 7/375
Course Load: Took all AP courses that my school's schedule allows
Senior course: all AP and honors except 1 class
AP scores: 3 in us hist, and 3 in eng comp (It was b/c I only had one semester of each course, and had work, but bad excuse)

ECs/Activities: pretty weak.
Student leader in church youth group
Black belt and student instructor in martial arts
officer in two school clubs
Piano certificate of merit advanced/senior award
Congressional Page in House of Representatives

Teacher and counselor recs: Good, I hope!
Peer evaluation (for D-mouth): i had a really good friend, who writes for her city's newspaper write mine.
Essays: good..but subjective of course

Chances for this desperate student's ultimate ultimate ultimate super duper dream school since forever and ever and beyond (which is DARTMOUTH, btw)?????!!!

if you want the stereotypical CC answer:
pretend to hear this in an egotistical pompous voice
SAT scores are VASTLY too low for the Ivy league
I would say LESS than 10% chance
GASP, not valedictorian?? YOU DREAM IN VAIN

morango now returns
your stats sound very similar to mine actually in terms of academics. but like i was saying, no one here really knows. i think you have as good a chance as i do :p. might not be a consolation, but at least you're in the same boat as another super awesome person. you will do fine wherever you go and i think you have a good chance of getting in. the ivy league is fickle!

I agree that ivy league admissions are unpredictable, and coupled with my below average stats, that doesn't make it any better for myself. Oh well. I would really love to go to Dartmouth, but if not, I have great schools awaiting me.

Retake that math SAT. It's pretty glaring next to your other scores.

Low income means nothing but first-generation may be in your favor.
It is regrettable your ECs are weak... Dartmouth really pays attention to those. In applying, play up the black belt and the piano.

Being an officer in two student clubs is pretty meaningless, as are 3s on the APs. Only 5s and occasionally 4s get you credit here.

Your best chance will happen if you really make yourself sound unique. Either your information here isn't telling a whole picture, or you have an uphill battle to make yourself stand out.

In your case, really think about your essay. Make it INTERESTING. The two people in my class that got into Yale wrote about Thai food and pottery. That's what sort of memorable you might benefit from. The typical "I worked so hard on X and finally I won this award/performed in this concert/beat these odds" story will put admissions officers to sleep.

Good luck! Show your passion for Dartmouth and apply early :)

Thanks dowindreams for the great tips! Unfortunately, I am now a senior and have already applied RD for the class of 2011. I wish I could retake my SATs and I certainly would have done some things differently. :(
