EFC = 0 why not full pell grant?

My wife's EFC is 0, she has been fulltime. Why was her 2005-06 pell grant only $1350?

I have a similar question.

WHy would a person whose EFC=500 get more aid than those whose EFC=0?

the pell grant award is based strictly on the numbers -- there is no discretion allowed. check out this link -- http://ifap.ed.gov/dpcletters/attachments/2004PaySched.pdf

this is the table used for 2004 -- 2005 and the first table is the one for full-time students.

you just look up your efc and the cost of attendance at your school

from what I can tell, one of three things has happened --

--the school has adjusted the EFC (they can do that), go to the fafsa website and print out the report.

--the cost of attendance at the school is about $1300 -- $1400 (maybe a really cheap communty college -- still, they usually still factor in room and board)

--the financial aid office messed up.

check the FAFSA and then go to the financial aid office and see what they have to say.

hope that helps!

Thanks, its not cheap, its $250 credit hour. We are goinjg in to talk to financial aid today becuase I will be going there. I also have an EFC of 0, so well see.

Do you both already have bachelors' degrees???

let us know what they say -- easydoesitmom is right, that is another thing -- but if you already have a bachelor's degree, pell grants should be zero.

also -- if your efc is 0, you should also qualify for additional grant money (seog, state grants) as long as you got your fafsa and application in by the priority date. pell grant awards are not impacted by the priority date.

Well, my EFC is also "0" and I'm receiving $4,050, a full Pell Grant, but my school's tuition is well-beyond $20,000.
