I completed our family FAFSA report and was given an estimate EFC. My question is since we will have 2 students in college next year is the EFC divided in half for each student? This will be our 1st time having 2 college age students and i am confused.

Kind of…

You’ll do the FAFSA twice (once for each child) and put in that 2 will be in school. Each child’s EFC may be a bit different if one child has more savings than the other.

So, if neither of your kids has any money/assets to speak of, then your EFC will be split amongst the 2 kids.

The EFC you received is the EFC for that student - it will have already taken into account the number of students in college. The part generated by parent income/assets will have been divided by the # in school. The part generated by the student’s own incomeassets will stay with him/her.

??? Confused by this. There is no family FAFSA report. Each student must complete their own separate FAFSA. It will have their own personal data and income and assets, and also parent data and income/assets. Each student must have their own individual FAFSA PIN. The parent signing can use the same PIN on each FAFSA.

You are correct, I mislabeled what i meant. We did complete 2 forms, one for each child.

So, did it work out? Was the total for 2 kids about the same as for one kid? Or, was the total for two a bit more? Just wondering. :)
