<p>the amount of money from colleges SHOULD increase if your efc is lower-- EFC is the amount your family is CAPABLE of paying, not the amount your family IS getting</p>

<p>but then again some of my friends with low EFCs have gotten screwed over, so it will really depend on the school. good luck!</p>

<p>OP: The cost of attendance (COA) = EFC + merit aid + grants + loans + work study + summer employment + un-met need.</p>

<p>Different schools will have a different mix of the above formula.</p>
