How accurate is the EFC??? I've always dreamed of attending an ivy but I would never want my parents to pay 40g a year or to take out money from their retirement account (we probably couldnt afford it, I have a younger sibling in middle school). I got my EFC a couple days ago and it is about 7,000. How much financial aid (if any) will I receive at the ivies?

It has been within a few 1000 dollars in my experience. Some schools will vary high, others will trend to the low side. Even though it shouldn't, it may vary a little with how much they want you. I think you will in general pay under $10K at the Ivies if you figured it correctly.

Many schools have an amount that is considered family or parent contribution. (EFC). They also have what may be considered the student's contribution. During a Yale admissions interview, we were told that even if the parents efc was 0, the student would be expected to contribute approximately $4000+/-.
