Effectiveness of Alumni Recommendation

Hi, guys! I’m an international student from Bangladesh. Just got deferred from Yale, so burdened with uncertainty again. Regardless, grateful not to get rejected and now applying to a bunch of universities. So, I’m applying to Harvard as well (I know it’s a huge reach) and luckily, one of the people who mentored and partnered with me on my startup for more than one and a half year, is an Harvard alumnus (he went to Harvard Business School). He knows me quite well personally, and I believe he can give valuable insight regarding my personality and entrepreneurial ambitions. So, would it be a good idea getting a recommendation from him? Also, would it help that he’s a Harvard alumnus (even by a little, considering that it’ll be a thorough recommendation)? Also, I’m the only high school student he’s directly mentored during his career. Thanks in advance!

It’s a good idea, sure, but don’t hold out much hope that his alumni status will help a log. His letter might, though, anyway.

Thanks for the advice!
