Egg prices, and impacts you are seeing

Just curious what others are seeing.

We bought two dozen Egglands Best at BJs this week for $6.99 and felt like we got a bargain🙄.

Some local farms are selling eggs for about $6 a dozen.

I feel for businesses that rely on egg use…like breakfast restaurants!

We frequently pay about $6 a dozen because we buy high quality local eggs directly from the farmer at the farmer’s market instead of factory farmed eggs. Worth it to us to buy the good stuff. Still super cheap. How many meals can you make out of a dozen eggs?

We only eat egg whites so buy the 5 dozen case at Walmart or Kroger. They used to be under $5. Now the case is $25! It’s outrageous!

The cheapest in my grocery store are egg lands best 24 pack, 29 cents each.

Per egg? That’s what we paid too.

At Safeway this week the lowest price was $5.79 for store brand dozen. Some name brand was on sale for $5.99.

What I don’t get is that chicken is not more expensive. Yes, I know different producers but you’d think the price of chicken would be soaring too.

Yeah, we noticed that too! Used to buy 60-pack at Walmart here in TX for $5.99, now well over $20. My kids got tired of constantly having eggs for breakfast anyway, so we just buy fewer eggs now. If we shop around, can still find 18-pack for around $5 on sale.

Ours were about $5.99 for 2 dozen at Costco probably 10 days ago.

I was at our local produce market Sunday. A dozen large white eggs was something like $4.49/dozen. A dozen mismatched sized brown eggs was $2.99. I wasn’t worried about the mismatched sizes so I bought the brown!

Eggs are pretty important to me - a frequent breakfast stable - I’ll cut out other things before I’d cut out eggs!

Yes, I actually prefer the store brand, I feel like they peel better when boiled (maybe older?).

Farm eggs are terrific but hard to peel, hard boiled when really fresh. Doable, but harder. When we get eggs at our farm, we keep some for a week before we hard boiled them.

Sometimes we buy eggs at the store, and use those for hard boiled…and the farm eggs for omelettes, etc.

But now….the eggs are all pricey.

Still buying the 2 dozen organic eggs from Costco for $7.50 when I can find them. My local Costco and the one in an adjacent town had an egg shortage over the holidays; no eggs in stock for nearly a month!

We always buy the 18 count of Great Value brand at Walmart. Since I always use the app, it was pretty easy to find previous purchases. Here’s a random sampling over the past year.

If I bought them today: $7.22
10-10-22 $5.02
7-24-22 $4.69
3-16-22 $1.00 I thought this was odd, so I went back further
1-26-22 $1.45 I guess not

I imagine they will eventually fall back down somewhat. It’s mostly due to the bird flu, right? I also noticed that the 18 count of brown eggs are $7.24. Maybe I would try them the next time if it’s the same.

@ClassicMom98 yep…we bought a dozen eggs for hard boiling at Aldi for $1 or so a dozen…same timing as you

I paid $4.99 at Aldi. I have chickens, but due to the severe cold snap we had, molting, etc., they are not laying!!

100! What would life be without eggs?

Instead of the fancy schmancy eggs that I used to buy, now I buy whatever is being discounted that day, which is just about everyday at this point, because I eat them everyday.

It’s still $3.49 a dozen in Whole Foods here

Large organics at my local small chain, which I love for its great service, were $6.99 for a dozen yesterday. They had an apologetic sign up, but I think that’s what most of the organic eggs cost in December too, though if you rooted around they sometimes would have one brand for less.

3.49 for grade a brown eggs at FreshDirect (nyc online grocery).

I’m not buying the bird flu “excuse”. Chicken breasts, thighs, drumsticks, whole chickens etc haven’t risen in price exponentially. Chicken wings have went up in price but I think that’s more a gouging thing which is also what I consider the egg issue. Raise the price bacause they can.

There seems to be no real shortage. The shelves are full, eggs are just extremely priced.
