I understand that Harvard is riding the top of the totem pole when it comes to American colleges; and every little detail of your life (or at least the details one would put on a resume) matter HIGHLY. But I was wondering, are all extracurriculars or electives 'born equal'? Does one extracurricular seem more impressive than another or so on. Would it be helpful if everything you did was related directly to your area of degree and career interest?

For example, I would like to recieve my M.D. from Harvard (I intend to be a psychiatrist) and: I volunteer at my mother's hospital. I will be volunteering at my father's hospital. I have recently been accepted to volunteer at a respected Psychiatric asylum. And as far as school goes I'm the first female captain of the Quiz Bowl team, A-team mathelete, and taking and passing all accellerated programs with an unscathed 4.0 GPA. As well as free tutoring. I'm in Family Career, and Community Leaders of America as well as Future Business Leaders of America. And I was the previous treasurer of the science club.
Next year I plan on running for Student Body Sophmore Representative (VP isn't allowed until Jr. year). And I want to join STUCO.

But, I also: volunteer at a library. I am an avid musician (I have recieved first or second chair in first band at every regional competetion I've been to). Our marching band (all freshman) made a division one. I am a lead singer in a "competetive choir". I am accepted into every school musical and play that's casted. I am in competetive forensics, and have gone to semi finals. And, I've performed twice now in the same year on my state's most respected stage. Oh, and was what one might call a "runner's up" maid on the homecoming court. I wasn't allowed to "walk" but had the second maid fallen out, I would have walked in her place. I also was the lead of a 'cheernastics' class before dropping at semester for spring play auditions. Before the summer is over I would also like to volunteer at the state capital as a page or a runner.
Next year I'll be a part of marching, concert, and jazz bands, advanced choir, and I want to re-run for Sophmore Maid. I've also been asked to help sponsor a 'Band Booster' organization, organize a book club, and I support our GLAS (Gay and Lesbian Acceptance Socitey).

So, my question is which would be more impressive on a resume. The first set of accomplishments, the second set of accomplishments, or both?
