Electronic Pings

Do you think that somewhere in your Admission’s folder the information may be included about when (date/time) you logged on and off the application website? Might they have a record of your electronic pings? Just wondering.

Uh oh, I hope they don’t do this. I’ve checked sometimes at 3-4 am and I don’t want them to think me as crazy kid who doesn’t sleep. (Although it’s true that I don’t have time to sleep much. :frowning: )

I highly doubt that they would do this. And even if they did, they wouldn’t care that much.

Good.

OK, thanks. I was reading an article about the admission decision making process at Lehigh University and it got me thinking. Here’s the caption…

The New Jersey high school student was on the fence by a lot of measures, and as a result drew one of the longest conversations of that day.

But one thing that really got the team: He never opened his portal. The portal is the online site where students check on the status of their application and receive updates. The staff sees it as a major indicator of how serious a student is about Lehigh. The teen also never visited.

Colleges all have a common data set, which may or may not be made public. One of the things rates is “Relative importance of each of the following academic and nonacademic factors in first-time, first-year, degree-seeking (freshman) admission decisions.” For Lehigh, level of applicant’s interest is rated as “Important.”

As colleges receive many more applications that boarding schools, some choose to rate level of interest as important. Lehigh, as we see, does; Harvard does not. Level of interest could mean visiting the school, visiting the website, visiting a college fair, etc.

As most boarding schools require an interview, it is assumed that level of interest will be consistent among all applicants.

Anyway, as I’m going through the college admissions process, that’s part of what I’ve learned. So to answer the original question, no, I do not think the boarding schools are tracking number of online visits.

Thank God! They’d probably take out a restraining order!! lol
