Electronic/Techno Music?

Electronic music? Love it, hate it?

Techno is just a subdivision of eletronic music (iTunes classifies Techno under Dance and considers it a completely different genre). Eletronic is really an overbearing genre that incorporates experimental (like Bjork), ambient (like M83), electronica (like DJ stuff/Daft Punk/Chemical Brothers; typical pre-conceived notions of what people think is "techno"), and industrial (like The Postal Service).

Does it bother anyone else when people think "eletronic" means "techno."

Maybe it just bothers me especially because when someone asks what kind of music I like and I say electronic, they immediately think of techno and think you're some crazy party animal with a horrible taste in music. Ranting :)

I like electronic music but have never partied, and people give me the strangest looks when I say that because they think I’m some typical nerd who only listens to classical or some ridiculous stereotype like that (although I do enjoy classical also, :P). The Postal Service FTW, by the way. Lots of music talk throughout this board today, I’m noticing.

Haha the funny thing is, you can’t dance to a good portion of electronic music if you tried!

I like some electronic/techno like music. I really like Darude [Feel The Beat and Sandstorm]. Oh yeah and DJ Tiesto! =]

Personally, I dislike both.

Tiesto, Gigi D’Agostino, Daft Punk, and so on

Love most types of electronica. Eurodance, energy, trance, techno, dance. I usually donwload like 2-3 cd’s of pure techno a month.

Techno(not really electronica) is starting to become really popular around my hs. Everyone used to think it was gay, now people love all the school dances with techno.

My friend introduced me to Basshunter this year and I think it’s alright, pretty addicting beat I gotta say. I like Hammer House’s “The Jumper” too! But that’s probably it in the electronic/techno genre.

I like folktronica[folk elements mixed in with electronica] ala Goldfrapp.

Yeah, there’s definitely a difference between electronica and techno/house music.
