Eligible for AP test?

This year would have been my senior year of hs, but I took the CHSPE after my sophomore year so I'm in CCC now (hoping to transfer to UC 2011).

I want to take the AP music theory test. I'm a level 9 pianist, getting back into serious training, and this test would help my application a lot as well as help me personally hone my music skills.

Part of the thing with the CHSPE is that even though it's equivelent to a hs diploma, it doesn't kick you out of school. So when I took it at 16, I still had the opportunity to go back to hs if I wanted. So instead of enrolling in my 4th CCC semester this Jan, I could go back to hs if I wanted.

Does anybody have any experience with this? Any sort of information at all?

I have no experience with piano or UC, but you don’t even need to be in school to take an AP test. College Board says that and we’ve had no trouble, but I don’t know various school policies. I think all you have to do is find a school who will administer the test for you along with all the other kids taking the test, pay them, and go. It might be pretty hard to find a high school administering Music Theory, though - we couldn’t even find a school doing MicroEconomics last year. So you’d do well to start hunting for a cooperative high school as soon as school starts back up again.

My son indeed had a problem to find AP testing place last year. He eventually found one place but for only two tests—AP Calculus & AP Music Theory. He was the only student in a AP Music Theory test room however. So good luck to find a school for the test.
