Wake is a LAC?

IMO fit is WAY more important than rankings – especially for a LAC. There are so many great schools out there.

It’s like the old Picture Pages show - “One thing is not like the others”. Wake has been in the National Universities list for USNWR for years…

I hope no one thinks when looking to hire or further their education that anyone cares about ranking within top 25 LACs. It’s what you do when you are at the school that matters

Based on “institutional priorities”? As gauged by whom?

What is the source of this list?

The criteria which includes “etc.” as part of it seems to imply it is highly subjective. Are there subscores for each school?

Lists like this which assign absolute rankings tend to get overemphasized in that there is little difference between the schools at the top, middle and bottom. In other words #7 may not be that much different from #18 (random example, applies to just about all) in terms of it being a good school for you. The ranking makes it seem like the lower one is a lot worse which is nonsense since a) both are really good schools, and b) the ranking methodology itself is likely subjective with unclear reasons why one is ranked the way it is in the first place.

Rather than argue the merits of the order of the list, consider any/all of these schools and see which ones are a good fit for you based on what’s important to you. Don’t obsess why one is listed closer to the top than another.

This is your personal ranking?

Wake is a national research university with a very strong LAC core / foundation. But it has a very good business school, law school, med school so it doesn’t really fit the LAC model. Also with 5k UG students it would be considered very large for an LAC. Still great teacher / scholar dynamic, UG and residential focus.

Pitzer seemed to have surpassed Claremont McKenna. Claremont McKenna is lower than 30th, I guess.

Assuming you aggregated a series of rankings by the above criteria, then used a mean in each criterion to determine an average rank score, did you use arithmetic, geometric, or harmonic means?

Without additional replies from the original poster, I think this list is just their personal opinion.

Or… maybe harmonic convergence?

I’ll say that one or two people seem to have understood the point of my post. I think you got it, along with @apple23. Although I’m not blaming anyone for having read it at surface value.

Certain faculty at CMC successfully petitioned to have its category changed to “Conservative Arts College.” :upside_down_face:

I am a huge fan of rankings :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: and the absolute best and one to be believed is Niche 2022. My kiddo’s school is a top 3 LAC so it must be true.

Yes, this is tongue in cheek. I almost created a new topic but thought that was too “UChicago-ish”. Hee hee (Sorry UChic peeps. Just having some fun.)
