I found out on Friday that I was accepted for MT class of 2012!! I'm SO excited!! I'm still going to a few more auditions but I think I'm going to end up at Elon, I love it there.

Congrats everyone!

Although I was rejected from the MT department, I was academically deferred from the University. I'm actually pretty happy with that. I thought they would laugh in my face at my grades and stuff, but at least I know there was a possibility. I still won't go to Elon, but I feel that if I can get in academically to Elon, I can get in academically to all of my other schools :D

I had a 4.3 GPA, taken all the AP classes my school has to offer and was told I had a strong essay, over 1200 SAT, white male and was not even given a deferal or wait list....Two cold and impersonal words. "Application denied", that's it. But congrats to your daughter!

Elon sure seems like a great school, but they are getting greedy this year! It could backfire when they think all these people who applied wil go there, people with the SAT's they want are using Elon as a "safety" school.

Hm, Anti, I am not sure if you were asking me or Hope2Elonmom, but I just wanted to let you know it sure seems to me that you were a very strong academic candidate based or your GPA and SAT scores.

I don't know if you actually applied for the musical theatre program, but in regard to academics, all I can say that tons of schools throughout the country are sending rejections to many, many qualified candidates. There are simply way more students applying to certain colleges than there are spots available.

In our case, yes, D is indeed out of state (CA) but she is 100% American :). She was lucky to have a good audition that led to her artistically being admitted. Subsequently, her current courseload (including AP's), solid grades, acceptable SAT & ACT scores, and a great (so she is told) extra-curricular resume with a host of leadership, employment & community services activities led to her academic acceptance. D realizes however that in spite of all that, she easily could have been one of the deferred or rejected ones as well. She also received a rejection, and knows what that feels like, but she still thinks the world of that program; it was just not where she was meant to be.

I don't know that any school these days is really a "safety school" anymore, especially in the BFA world, but also BA's are getting increasingly competitive. Things do tend out to work out in the end though. Best of luck to you this year, and please let us know how things turned out for you.

ANTIELON
I'm sorry for your rejection at Elon. We know from personal experience that rejections really hurt, especially when you were expecting an acceptance. I think your stats look very good, however I would guess that your SAT scores are what hurt you in the EA round at Elon. In the past, 1200 would have been sufficient, but every year it seems that Elon's scores are higher and higher. We have been told that EA is the MOST difficult round for acceptance at Elon because the kids applying who are accepted then often have very high stats yet it is a non-binding agreement, so kids can get in and then choose to attend or not. You are correct that Elon may accept many kids who are using Elon as their safety school. However, many of those accepted kids may also really LIKE Elon, and may attend. I have a daughter who is a current freshman at Elon, and another who was accepted EA yesterday, and both had very good GPA, ACT scores, rank in class, and extra curricular activities. My daughter who attends Elon has many friends there who also had similar profiles and had other acceptances to schools such as NYU, Syracuse, Ithaca, Penn. State, etc. but CHOSE Elon.
I hope you have many great acceptances to other schools this year!! PLEASE don't be too discouraged by this one non-acceptance. It seems that usually things work out and I hope you end up at a school which is just the right fit for you!

nydancemom

Congratulations to you and your D for her acceptance to Elon! Is she definitely going to attend? How exciting!

My D is attending the March orientation. How about yours?

Hope2bELONmom - nydancemom's very talented daughter is a current freshman at Elon :).

^^^However, NYDanceMom posted that she has ANOTHER daughter who was accepted to Elon yesterday. Congrats to your daughter, NYDanceMom!!!! Very exciting to hear that! I think Hope2bELONmom is asking if the second daughter plans to attend Elon. :)

Yes SOOZIEVT, thank you!

Hi Hope2bELONmom
Thanks for the congratulations on my younger daughter's acceptance.
She has had many other acceptances already, and isn't sure yet what her college decision will be. We are waiting for financial information and she is also applying to the honors and college fellows programs at Elon. If she was accepted into one of those with additional scholarship money, that would help!
She is a dancer, like her sister who is already at Elon in the MT program, and although does not want to major in dance, would be able to minor in dance while pursuing another major. She knows from D#1 what a great dance program Elon has, so that is appealing. She will visit her sister in the winter months by herself, and will be able to take a few dance classes while she is there, so I think that will give her a taste of what Elon could be like for her. We'll see what happens!

Oh wow, TWO talented daughters, I had no idea and just re-read the post! Congrats nydancemom! No need for me to repeat how I feel about everything Elon :D

Also, so sorry Hope2bELONmom, I did not mean to point out the obvious if it came across that way. Being a blonde I personally do get the different posters on this Board mixed up at times; I will definitely do a better job of reading the prior posts before "jumping in the post reply box" :)

I got a deferral from Elon's EA program. But my stats seem way lower after I'm reading all of these threads. I'm a white female from Virginia with a 3.3 uw GPA and a 1150 (CR&V) on my SAT.

anyone know the breakdown of how many students got accepted deferred or rejected from EA and ED?

Hey all! I am going to start a facebook group for those who have been accepted to elon for mt class of 2012! I would love to start meeting you all! I have my fingures crossed for those of you who got deffered. When I was there for my auditions i had at least 5 people from this years freshmen class tell me that they had been deffered. So don't give up hope!

wowreally90

That is a wonderful idea to start a Elon 2012 MT thread. Let us know what you are going to title it.
Please be aware though that there is a ELON 2012 thread already on facebook for all those students accepted ED and EA. Some of the students on that thread were deferred, as well. So far only one of those kids is a MT major.

That is comforting news that some of the Elon MT majors were originally deferees themselves!!!

It is called " Elon Musical Theatre Class of 2012!" I posted on the Elon 2012 group to let people know, but I'm assuming people will start to find it as more acceptances go out. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to find more mt acceptances?

I know these posts are old, but reading how high people's stats are, it kind of shocks me that I WAS accepted EA. I mean, I do have a high GPA (Idk what it is on the 4 pt scale cuz my school does not convert it. But numerically overall I have about a 97) and I have lots of extracurriculars and my essay was ok (in my opinion - not competitive or anything special. basically me gushing about how much of a MT nerd I am. haha) and my SAT scores weren't anything special. in the 1100s. And I'm a white female from Georgia. So Idk what Elon's looking for, but all that have posted stats are definitely qualified. I guess that's just how Elon works.

I auditioned for MT yesterday and am anxious to hear. It's so nerveracking knowing how competitive it is. And does anyone know actually HOW much they look at dance? I know it's fairly new (the dance component was brand-new last year, if I'm correct) and I wasn't sure if they weighed it heavily on their decision. I know it's to see potential and for dance class placement, but how much do they put into perspective?

kbond,
I cannot go so far as to give you some percentage - but the dance component was added at to the audition process because dance is part of being in MT. Elon graduates well rounded "cross trained" performers. Dance is a consideration in your overall evaluation for acceptance. Stay upbeat and hopeful about all your auditions. Not everyone is a triple threat - if you sang well and acted well and have good grades - and showed some potential in dance - you will likely be in the mix for consideration - and visa-versa for others who are fairly strong in most areas, but could use more training in one area. In any case, keep your options open and things will work out either at Elon or elsewhere.

Best of luck.

Thank you very much, mtdog71.

Really, all you said was very helpful and calming, too. haha..I've been stressing too much over it.

So, thank you :)
