We received the expenses letter from Elon for 08/09 which shows that the costs will be $31846.00. This doesn't include books or personal expenses so I am wondering what any of you have actually paid/year? What is it really going to cost me!!!!

I always found the colleges' cost to attend estimates less than revealing and hard to budget.
Will you or your child want used books (with others' notes) or prefer their own new copies?
My girls have long curly hair and require $40 of products a month; my son probably uses the same bottle of shampoo all semester (or all year!).
Our utilities are way down when kids are at school, as is our food bill, so that money goes toward the meal plan.
When they moved off campus, without cars, one child shared a house with 4 bedrooms and paid less than $300/month. The other child could not find anything close in for less than $425/month.
Will your child come home often? As a passenger sharing gas costs? Driving their own car? On an airplane?

My daughter is a sophmore at Elon. The first year we gave her an extra $100 per month for spending money. This year it's $150, but she is in an on campus apartmen and has fewer meals on her meal plan. Books vary widely depending on your classes. Fall of this year was almost $1000 but she took anatomy and several other expensive classes. This smemster, I think she spent about $400 for books. I think her sororiety is one of the more expensive activities she does.
