Elon Fellows Program Questions

Were are hoping that someone who is currently, or was previously, enrolled as an Elon fellow could describe what the program is like in practice. We read the information available on the website, but still have a lot of practical questions.

Do you have to be invited to apply? Based on the info, D should qualify for consideration as an Honors, Leadership or Elon College fellow. It looks like you can only choose 2 to apply to, and participation is limited to 1.

How challenging are these once accepted and how heavy is the additional workload? The scholarship $ looks great, but not at the expense of her sanity. It looks like there are special honors courses - is this in addition to normal coursework, or do these replace certain classes. She is considering majoring in exercise science/PT - would these qualify for the Baird scholarship?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated

Now that EA acceptances are out - Yay! - I’m bumping this question in the hopes that someone can answer. Also, there does not seem to be a length requirement/limit on these essays - any thoughts are appreciated.

The admissions counselor I spoke to said to make the essay as long/short as you think necessary. I’m planning to answer the essay(s) within 250-500 words.

can people who are applying for fellows please share your stats?

hey i am a current honors fellow and you do not have to be invited to apply, you will be invited to the fellows weekend for interviews, essays, and meet and greets if your application is good enough. There you have the chance to earn a spot in next years cohort! I only applied for honors, but yes, you can apply for 2 (only can choose one if accepted to both). If you are accepted into the program you apply for, it is for a reason. My point being that the workload is heavy, but manageable. For the honors fellow, the classes we take are rather challenging and have high expectations, but they are with your cohort and foster amazing learning environments. It is also important to note that you have a cohort of 40 all going through the same thing and then the upperclassmen as well to support you through it. I have made so many friends in my program and the money is definitely a huge help. I would definitely recommend trying it and if it doesnt work out, that is ok too.

I applied RD to Elon and also to the Honors Fellows program. Will I find out my acceptance decision earlier than March if I am invited to Fellows Weekend?

Yes, I think so. We took a tour of Elon yesterday, and that is what they said.
