My son and I attended last year for the business fellow. I am not sue how many kids were invited, but about 140 students competed for the 25 business fellow slots. Probably similar numbers for the other programs. I know that the business fellows have 4 scholarships for the 25 students. (That info can be found on the fellows website) They have an alternate list and fill the remaining slots after the May 1 deadline for deposits.

Can anyone give me an idea of what actually happens at the interview for the leadership fellows. I have the schedule but it really doesn’t tell you what to expect or how to be prepared.

I would also like to know what kind of questions are asked in the interview. I made the first cut for the Leadership and the Business Fellows program. Do I have to choose before the March 4-5th weekend or can I do both?

Faquier I think there comes a time when either you will be asked to choose one, or only one will be offered to you. (or you just don’t make either.)

Regarding the interview I would expect that that depends on who is doing the interview. I am sure the questions vary and change each year. I do remember my son saying he was asked to describe a project he was in charge of which did not go as well as he liked and what he could have done differently.

I notice that this year’s schedule doesn’t include the foreign language placement assessment which was on the sample schedule referred to in the initial email. Any idea why?
Also, similar to the possibilities for the interview does anyone have an idea what the essay question might entail? I read in an article that last year the candidates wrote a reaction paper to the seminars they had attended over Fellows weekend.

^^I think they changed the foreign language placement test to be completed online starting in May; it says that in the acceptance packet you will receive (if you were just accepted during the Fellows round)

My D was accepted EA, and invited to compete for a Communications Fellows. However her senior choir trip/performance is scheduled same weekend. She called and they offered a couple of other dates to visit. And, if absolutely necessary, they can do phone interview, along with emailed essay prompts etc. They seem easy to work with. That said, I don’t know how much the phone process would hurt the candidate. D is having serious discussion this weekend with us about what to do. Another trip (after so many different visits) isn’t cheap from our part of the country. But in the end it’ll be her call.

In the past, you were able to make arrangements for interviews over the phone etc if you were unable to make it to Fellows weekend. That may have changed. You were also able to compete for spots in two different Fellows, and could be accepted in both, at which point you had to make a choice. Again, that data is 3 years old.

In a past post I remember someone said her daughter was unable to come on the Fellows weekend and she was still offered a spot in the end.

Just curious, for those invited to Fellows weekend, do you have to pay for travel and lodging yourself or is there any kind of stipend offered? Seems a big investment for out of state candidates who would need to fly.

No travel stipend that I know of. You’re right…it’s a pricey trip for those far away. Guess that’s why they also make it the freshman orientation weekend as well (saves another trip). My daughter had to travel there (and 8 other schools across the US as well…don’t want to see my credit card slips…) to audition for their musical theatre program. They were able to work with her so she could do her Fellows interview that same weekend we were there. (She’s also performing in a show in our home city during the one competition weekend.) She’s traveled to other schools to do similar scholarship competititions as well…but I figure if she receives one of these offers at a school that turns out to be “the one,” the scholarship awards will outweigh the outlay on travel/hotels…

Good Luck to those going to Fellows Weekend! Enjoy the weekend!

The weekend went wonderfully. As someone who had never been to elon, this was a perfect weekend to visit. Everyone was extremely nice and I got the sense that professors really are as accessible as they say. Very excited to hear from Elon again later this month

yes, it was very well-run

I was there for Elon College Fellows and I think it went well…crossing my fingers anyway…

For those of you who attended the full weekend…how will Fellows contenders find out about their status, and when? Daughter did her interview when she was on campus for a musical theatre audition, and her essay by email. What were some of the cool parts of the Fellows Weekend itself? She could not make a return trip for the weekend, but is hoping to still be considered, and is grateful Elon would make the accommodations for her travel needs.

We were told by April 1st-by email, on track and letter

Judging from last years posts, we could hear regarding fellows decisions as early as Friday! Good luck everyone!

Fellows decisions are up! Check email and ontrack!

Daughter named an Elon College Fellow. However, she will not be attending Elon (got a much more substantial financial offer at a different school), so if Elon does a waitlist for Fellows, one slot will be opened up. Good luck and congratulations to all candidates and new Fellows.
