I am a college freshman at Elon University looking to transfer into the Linguistics department at UMass Amherst or NYU. I have a 3.675 GPA, and I am involved with 3-4 different clubs (LGBT club, Autism Speaks, Elon Feminists, and I Am That Girl) ,plus leadership positions from high school. Elon classes are 4 credit classes, and I have some from AP tests, so I would be transferring with 48 credits. What are my chances?
The average UMass Amherst transfer has a 3.2 so, grade-wise, you have that covered.
If you can afford NYU then perhaps McGill would be worth looking into for linguistics; $18k tuition (since linguistics is an Arts degree for tuition purposes) would beat $40k+… and that’s before living expenses.
Financial aid for transfer students is not very good at NYU, almost nonexistent.
Well it’s actually a 3.3 with the current stats, and linguistics at UMass is quite selective compared to some other majors. This all being said, I agree with Catria, you should get in without a problem. Best of luck.
