How religious is this school? I heard they require students to pray in the chapel.

It is not religious at all. They are associated with United Church of Christ, but that means little. There is no requirement to pray.

I dont know who told you that ugly rumor but its entirely FALSE. They are a wonderful school, campus and student body. Warm and endearing, welcoming, challenging without being cut throat or cynical. Just a fabulous place. I STRONGLY recommend them. We turned them down...a very generous and prestigious scholarship because my D said it was too close to home and too many HS friends going there...she wanted something different. But we were VERY impressed. Elon kids are hard working and get great internships. One kid turned an internship into a full time job and is now the managing director of the Hong Kong office of a major company. True story. And its recent.

Go get em!

Er, um, ah Nocousin....

What exactly is the "ugly rumor?" Describing it as bad information or misinformation I can understand. But "ugly rumor" regarding a mandate to pray?

I'm discovering that many schools have an inconspicuous affilation to one church or another.

Wake Forest = Baptist
Duke = Methodist
Davidson = Presbyterian
Elon = United Church of Christ

Lake: I was being facetious. Referencing this thread. And the "rumor" (as in "I heard") reported by the OP.

Wake is now independent and severed ties with the Baptist Convention years ago. It has a high percentage of Catholics on campus as a matter of fact and a priest in full time Campus Ministry.

Duke was established by Methodists but is also now officially independent from the Church.

Davidson I am unsure about, but I think its also no longer an official affiliation with the Presbyterian Church.

Elon's ties are still there, but they are very subtle really unnoticeable.

But even for schools that still remain tied to a particular faith/Church, you can normally find people of many faiths and even people who are agnostic/atheist on campus.

Although many kids might be religious, the school isn't a Christian school so its not like they make kids even go to chapel. They have kids of all religions.

how about the academics at Elon?

a growing reputation. more and more selective admissions (42% admit rate last year). they heavily emphasize going overseas for at least a semester. many strong departments.
