Email addresses, freshman course guide, and other stuff to get excited about

How soon after we accept Prinecton's offer will we receive more detailed information about life as a Princeton student? Will our email accounts be activated at this time, or do we have to wait until September?

SOOOON ... i hope
Judging by last year's thread, i'd say we will get our emails in about a month: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=196411
But on the online acceptance letter it says they'll be sending "a booklet of matriculation forms" in early May. So maybe in the next couple weeks. Not sure if this includes the email addresses though. I'm so excited!

If I'm not mistaken, your email addresses come in a separate small envelope, which gives you directions on how to activate your NetID/email address. But a couple weeks before then, you can search your own name on the Pton people search and you'll appear there (by the way, I've tried it already and you guys aren't there yet, unfortunately. Well, it's not even May 1 yet...)

how easy to use is princeton email? i currently use hotmail, which i like a lot. what kind of email service is princeton email most like?

A lot of people use it through MS Outlook or the equivalent. Webmail, quite frankly, sucks -- it's the same Sun Microsystems interface that most schools/companies/organizations use for web-based email (hey, even NASA uses this interface) -- but the spam filter is excellent. I personally forward everything to Gmail and link my Princeton address to my Gmail address. I'm sure a lot of people do that too, and except for sending messages to Princeton mailing lists where I'm an admin, there are no shortcomings to just continuing to use Gmail.

The admissions office told me today that matriculation stuff would come in mid-may

Everyone in my suite uses Thunderbird -- It pretty much makes my life :)

wooo class of 2011 web site!
