I got the "3" email and I think that I at least have a shot of getting in (Regents at UCSD, UCD, and got into UCLA). But who knows! College is a crapshoot! : )

i didnt get the email!!!
does this mean im not in?
I got into ucr(w/ scholarship) ucd uci ucsc ucsb(with honors program) ucsd but not into ucla :(
does this mean berkeley also doesnt want me?

True, it might be nothing. Ass flufflyo1 said, this is all just speculation. Out of curiosity though, which email did your friend get? (Also, other parts of his app. might've helped him gain acceptance -- you never know)

1: People who had not created a MyBerkeley account by "Mid-March" (as another poster put it), e-mailed around Mar. 15.

2: People who have not logged in. Some think it could be a possible rejection, but we're not sure.

3: Likely letter because it has the "we're worth the wait" and the warning not to respond to other UCs just yet.

Again, this is all just speculation, so no one throw yourself off of a cliff just yet. I didn't get any of them, so I don't know what it all means, especially since a previous post says that Berkeley responded in an e-mail that they DID NOT mean acceptance and were not likely letters.

haha I'm OOS too. berkeley accepted 5/10 kids who applied there from my school last year though... so there is hope. UCLA accepted a much lower percentage from my school

~From an email I received, questioning them about our question.

This was posted earlier, but they did not mention the variation in wording of the different e-mails. I'm guessing they are sending the e-mails out in batches, but I don't know why they would change the wording. However, I'm hoping they send more before Thursday (preferably one to me) or explain the confusion on their site.

Haha..people sure like to jump to conclusions, don't they?

I don't think that UCB's admissions office intended for this innocuous message to be blown out of proportion. Interpret it as you will, but I wouldn't say that this email gives "false hope" to potential rejects; only if you assume this email is an acceptance letter in disguise are you giving yourself false hope.

whether or not this email is a "likely", the wording of it really threw us all off. i think the words "we're worth the wait" is unnecessary if they only intended this email to be a "friendly reminder".

1: March 15th, people that have not created a Berkeley account by this date

2: Unlogged, Have not logged on

3: (Worth) March 22nd, I think the "worth the wait" was provided because LA gave out their decisions on the 19th'd. DEFINITELY not a likely letter.

My conclusion on the 3rd letter:

I received the 3rd letter. I was also rejected from UCLA. With my stats and GPA, there is no possible way Berkeley would have sent me a Likely Letter.

In addition, Why would they just "hint at a likely acceptance" when they could have sent another letter, like most colleges, and straight out say "You are a likely candidate" ?

EDIT: To conclude that this truly is a general email,

this says:
"We know you're hearing from other University of California campuses,
but before you give them your reply, please wait to hear from UC
Berkeley: we're worth the wait!"

I'm actually not waiting to hear from other UCs. I was rejected from UCLA and that was the only other UC i applied to. Since i was rejected, they already know my reply. This just shows that the email is directed to everyone after the UCLA decisions got out

Perhaps "We're worth the wait!" has a different meaning than what you may think. It could mean "Hey, we're UCB, and we're one of the best schools in the nation. We have the ability to keep tens of thousands of applicants anxious for our decisions, which we don't have to release until the end of March if we want to." But for Cal hopefuls who enjoy searching for clues that are nonexistent, it comes across as "You should wait until the 27th, because it will be worth it for YOU personally, trust us".
