Embarrassingly basic question: how do you actually apply to california state colleges?

Yes, this is a very basic question. I'm extremely naïve about the whole college application process (no older siblings, my mom is a foreigner, etc.). I know the UC's have a pretty easy system - log into their website and fill out a standard application that you can send to any UC. It seems straightforward enough, and the website is very well designed. But I checked out the CSU website, and things were kind of confusing to me. The layout is a little difficult to work. Is there a standard CSU application to fill out, or do you have to apply to each CSU individually? Does each school require different things for their applications? I know the UC's have a standard essay, for example, but I'm not sure how that works in the state system.

If someone could basically give me any info on how the CSU application process works (step by step), that would be awesome! I'm just a little confused at the moment about what I need to do. I also see all over these websites things like "collect your transcripts, records, etc. to submit." I didn't know that stuff had to be mailed in. Wouldn't you submit these things online as well?

Thanks! And sorry for such a newbie question

Here is the link for CSU Mentor Website where you can apply to any or all Cal States. The application opens OCT 1 and you need to submit by Nov 31 for Fall 2015.

If you have any more questions, you can PM me. I have been through the application process for CSU and UC’s twice in the last 2 years.
If you click on the first page where it says Undergraduate admissions, there is an on-line tutorial to help you through the process.
