Emerson Or Chapman for Screenwriting?

Hey guys, I’m in a bit of a dilemma. I’m a screenwriting major and I got into both Emerson’s and Chapman’s programs with generous aid. They both cost just about the same (Chapman is a bit cheaper) and they both have a lot of pros.

What would be the best option here? Emerson is in Boston, but I’ve heard that it has a great alumni network and seems to have a diverse “indie” vibe. Chapman is in Orange, far closer to LA, but lacks the extensive alumni network that an older school like Emerson has. I am also worried of the lack of diversity of the school and if the closeness to LA provides as many internships as you’d think.

Does anyone have any insight on either school that could help me out here?

Chapman has less of an indie vibe but just as robust an alumni network (they just don’t have a cute name like Emerson Mafia). My daughter is a creative producing major and has done some amazing internships since spring semester of sophomore year. Top internships like the producers of Hunger Games and Crazy Rich Asians and she’s currently on the Sony Lot as a junior with the producers of the new Ghostbusters movie and she did a summer at Mosiac, the management company who reps Judd Apatow, Will Ferrel and Christina Hendricks among many others.

Emerson is limited to one semester “abroad” on their LA campus, but that is a GREAT option if you wind up there!

It definitely has a lack of diversity…I don’t know if Emerson is better. It does feel very much like a “rich white kid” school…we are far from rich, but she doesn’t feel out of place, just recognizes that it does feel that way. Dodge kids are pretty well considered the “crown jewels” of the campus…lots of industry insiders including the one of the CEO’s of Netflix have their kids there.

If you have any specific questions about Chapman I can try to answer. We love it so much we are thrilled our son has committed to Film Production for the fall!
