Emma Willard and Putney

Just found this site tonight and it is a treasure chest of information. Thank you!

I’m posting in hopes of finding some current students, or families of students, attending Emma Willard or Putney.

My daughter is a freshman and will transfer in the fall. She is undecided between Emma and Putney, two very different schools, I know, but they are her top two choices. I would love to hear whatever information you are comfortable sharing.

A little background on my daughter. She currently attends North Country School in Lake Placid, NY. I can’t say enough about this school. It’s amazing. Different, yes, but truly life changing, at least for our daughter. She enrolled during the second semester of 8th grade so she’s been there for a little more than a year. The change in her is remarkable. She is engaged, not bored. She is learning and having fun. She is active, and healthy and not tied to a device. She is more confident.

NCS is very similar to Putney, and she likes that, but she also loves Emma, and she thinks she is ready for a change. (we were lucky enough to spend the day at Emma before Covid)

I’m hoping you can share some honest and candid feedback on both schools.

Meant to include we have a drive thru tour of Putney today. Looking forward to seeing the campus.

My daughter is in the 9th grade at Putney and is loving it! She loves that the adults start from a place of treating students with respect and caring. They listen and reflect, rather than feeling defensive if students have questions or concerns. The administration has done a great job with COVID and she’s been in person the whole year. It’s a school where students are challenged to learn about themselves and to push themselves in authentic and engaging ways. Feel free to DM me if you want to ask about anything!
