Emory and Georgia Tech Dual Degree

I am a transfer student heading into my sophomore year. I was recently accepted to Emory and realized that they have a dual degree option in engineering with Georgia Tech. This sparked my interest.

Do you think a Finance or Economics (from Emory) would pair nicely with Industrial engineering (concentration in Economic and Financial Systems at GA Tech)?

Both and fabulous in their respective fields. (Emory top 10 and GA Tech 1)(As if ranking truly matters)

It seems as if there is great overlap.
I also understand that it is a 5 year program and that I would need to be accepted into the business school.

Thank you for your time!

It’s a 3+2 program, so you need to be able to meet Emory’s requirements in 3 years (which may or may not be an issue for a transfer student), and then finish up at GT in 2 years. There is some synergies between the two majors, as ISE does require classes in economics and finance classes, but it also requires the “critical” engineering classes, such as higher level calculus, physics, etc. You should talk with an advisor at Emory and make sure you’re talking the right courses, if not, it can delay graduations and turn the 5 year plan into a 6+ year plan.

If you want both degrees and are fine with taking an extra year (at least) to graduate, then by all means go ahead. You would find a lot of synergies between the majors, and it will give you several options after you graduation (getting a job in Finance, economics, engineering, or grad school in any of these fields).

Good Luck!
