Hi, I am a sophomore transfer and got into Emory for econ major and Boston College for finance major.

I am an international student from Korea, and If I choose Emory, my only reason would be to go to Goizueta.

I heard that the admission is extremely difficult especially for international students, and my GPA at my current school isn’t too good since i have a “C” on one of my econ classes.

My career goal is to either get into a Big 4 accounting firms or financial service companies, so I am thinking about Accounting/Finance double major.

I know people say that Emory has more prestige and all that (that US NEWS ranking stuff), but just looking at my future career, which school would support me better? Can you reapply to Goizueta if you get denied once?

I know both are great b-schools, but which school is better in terms of Accounting and Finance programs? I know businessweek ranked CSOM #6 and Goizueta #7, but that doesn’t say much to me.

Please share your views, all responses are much appreciated!

both are regional schools, so attend the school in which you would like to work after graduation. Either will get you an interview with the Big 4. Both are strong in Acctg/Finance.

Are costs a consideration?

IMO, Boston is probably a little more international-friendly. But then I personally just like Boston better as a place to live – all personal preference.

Emory Goizueta vs BC CSOM is a legitimate debate. They are both very good schools. However you are asking Emory Arts & Sciences and HOPEFULLY and acceptance into Goizueta vs BC CSOM. I’m sure you are a great student, but you need to consider that you are definitely in the Business school at BC. I turned down Michigan for BC because there was a chance I didn’t get into the Ross Business school, and after I struggled freshmen year because of the tough transition into college, I am glad that I chose Boston College.

So you are a current student at BC CSOM right? Could I possibly talk with you further if you have spare time?

Absolutely! Boston College and especially CSOM are amazing and top notch institutions, especially for career development. Freshmen year can be a bit tough for social life, when your other friends are at big state party schools and in greek life somewhere else, but as you progress, your social life becomes really good. I think a lot of people think quickly about transferring when on some nights they are frustrated with the lack of parties for freshmen, but when I talked to seniors today on graduation, they all said it was an amazing time, and they are forever tied to this special place.

Transferring into Goizueta is generally not a big deal, or at least was not that hard a couple of years ago. I would check with them and inquire how many get turned down. What GPA is used as a cutoff.

47% of BC accounting majors work for Big 4, enough said. As stated earlier, Emory is a good program but still very regional as is BC.

Honestly, Atlanta is just as “international friendly” as Boston. I laugh when people say they are from Atlanta so therefore they are also southern… Atlanta is super cosmopolitan. I lived in Atlanta for ten years, so I’d know.

As stated above, BC accounting dominates the Big 4. When you add in BC’s prime location in Boston, its pretty girls (as compared to Emory), and guaranteed admission to the biz program, it’s not even really a question which is better.
