Has anybody applied to CORE yet or has gone in the past? If so, how many people get in from the applicant pool? Advice on applications?
I received an email about it even though I knew about it before. I plan on applying to many fly ins to see how many I can get into and/or go to. Might be a little stupid of me but I would love to visit Atlanta and see Emory. I’ll be applying to this one soon but have you applied yet?
I applied last week. I would also love to see Emory/Atlanta. What other fly-ins have you/are you applying to?
I plan on applying as well, and will probably submit my application sometime this week.
I applied but I don’t think I’ll get in
How straightforward were your short answers? With a 150 word limit, I figured that the answer would be more straightforward rather than creative but I wasn’t sure.
@ccclassof19 : Do what you do best. Also believe it or not, some are capable of concise creativity. Don’t worry about what style of writing they are looking for because I seriously doubt they are expecting any particular style. Just ensure that it is clear, is well-off grammatically and conveys what you need or want readers to know. Do not assume there is a formula expected that is somehow affiliated with length or anything else for that matter. Compelling, concise, and clear should be the 3 Cs you work around. How you choose to achieve this is up to you.
I just heard the decisions are out, I’m about to check. So nervous, good luck to everyone!!
Rejected
I applied and got in. Did anyone else make it?
@EaStIsUp I did as well! I’m curious to see who else got in, because I haven’t heard much.
Awesome! I looked around for more information about the program, just to get a better idea of what it’s going to be like, and wasn’t able to find anything, not even previous student testimonies. Emory seems to be holding their cards close to the vest on this one. Guess we’ll meet each other there!
@EaStIsUp so even though I’ve never done CORE, I’ve been to Essence of Emory (the admitted students version of CORE) and I hosted a CORE student last year. CORE is a weekend where students can stay on campus with current students to get a feel of what Emory’s like. You’ll have time to sit in on a class, talk to current students, tour campus, attend workshops on things like admission or financial aid, and a bunch of other activities. I think it’s pretty cool, I meet my first-year roommate at Essence of Emory, so it’s also a good time to meet other students interested in Emory. I have some friends that still talk to people they met at CORE even if they didn’t end up going to Emory.
Thanks for the info. I’m looking forward to it.
S19 isn’t going to CORE, but did do Pre-College at Emory this past Summer via Questbridge scholarship.
Emory did a wonderful job showing the students what campus life was like, including surrounding ATL attractions. Faculty from Film Studies (his major) took time to give him a personal tour and interview. He stayed at Turman, which was clean and modern. He still keeps in touch with his classmates today.
Even if Emory doesn’t check all the boxes for what he’s looking for (rah-rah spirit, football, etc), he could definitely picture himself being happy there.
I know this is a little late, but i was accepted and went to Core. It actually was mainly out of state students; only 13 out of the 84 who were accepted were in state. It was awesome and a beautiful campus; although, there was was a lot of free time and my host wasn’t so great (he was awkward and barely talked to me). Overall, though, I would apply! Great experience and basically got promised acceptance (they lied and tried to say that only 75/80 of us would get, but one of the students i met told me that 100% of last year’s class got in).
It was an awesome program; I went in October. Extremely hard program to get into (84 out of 1200ish were accepted), but it was mainly OOS students like myself. Great program, although; don’t feel bad if you didn’t get in!
Hey guys, I am new here.
I want to ask if anyone got accepted to EMORY U’s CORE program.
It seems like they accept most people from in-state, but did anyone from out of state get accepted?
I am applying to the 2018 program and I wanna know your experience at this program if anyone got accepted and went
Thanks
The rah rah stuff is overrated. Emory has great academics, a beautiful campus, and there is plenty to do inside of Emory and outside in Atlanta. That’s not to say Emory is for everybody, but if the fit is there, all of that other stuff falls into place.
@mreed1 : Wouldn’t 75-80/84 be awfully close to all? Is there some promise that the same % will get in each year (what if only 75-80 came last year)?
Also nice to know that there are still a few awkward folks at Emory. No need for everybody to be super socially vibrant robots who act the same lol. But still sorry he didn’t interact much.
