I know Emory has an awesome neuroscience program. My question is can you do research in this department all four years or is it only open to upper classmen? Thanks

S actually talked to one of the professors about this at an Emory open house. They say that research is possible all years. I suspect, it depends on the professor and the individual student. Research opportunities are very competitive.

You might want to actually get in touch with the head of the department and ask this question. 1) you will get a legitimate answer (not just a mom talking) 2) you will get your name out there that will earn you name recognition points. Never hurts for some one to think "I know that name".

Good luck

D1s faculty advisor is Keith Easterling. I think he is the head of neuroscience. He is very approachable and helpful. Try there.

My daughter (now a junior at Emory) had an intended major in Neuroscience & Behavioral Biology, and she was able to find a position as a paid research assistant in the Neuroscience dept. I think if you express interest and then persevere, you will find the doors opening to you.

The initial opportunity may not be the one you deem to be ideal, but if you leverage what you can by networking and showing interest, a lot of good can be found.
