emory or cornell?

i need help deciding... because my whole family wants me to go to cornell, since its an ivy and according to them "it'll open a lot of doors for u", which is true, and is probly the reason that i want to go there.

but from wat i hear.. cornell is extremely hard (it seems like if i go there, i will have no life but school..., is that true?)

and emory on the other hand, its nice, warm, atlanta! and it wont be that over-stressed

if the idea that you would have no life but school was true, how come i have like 1,200-something posts on CC?

...looking back on it, i think i need to find a 'life' in another activity. Sigh...

crap, it's like 1,300 posts, worse than i thought.

bad idea if you choose emory over Cornell - you would be in a tiny minority of students who ever does that..you will graduate with an ivy league degree..there are no words to express how many doors that opens up..i am a senior at Cornell...additionally, emory has very little reputation on a national level besdies US news...top firms do not actively recruit at emory the way they do at ivies. Third, the weather in Atlanta is cold during a substantial portion of year..my freinds there wear scarves..bad move all around if you choose emory

cornell likes to party...one of the hardest partiers I know has a high 3.x gpa in applied engineering physics (particularly intensive major) you won't have no life here, period... however, if there are reasons beyond that for being unsure, the choice is obviously yours

You know, posting on the Cornell forum sort of gives the edge to Cornell as it is. However, I'll argue for Emory. Actually, I'll argue for you. Go where YOU want to go...not where your family wants you to go. Who's life is it anyway? Moreover, it's not about Cornell or the Ivy League opening doors for you...Cornell knows you have what it takes for an Ivy Leauge school, and you're Ivy material even if you go to Emory. Plus, Emory is awesome...I don't agree with the BS that Emory has little national recognition. You wouldn't believe the number of people who don't even think of Cornell as an Ivy League school. In addition, what you do is more important than where you go.

Well the people that matter know what Cornell is. Besides who is paying for ur college, ur parents i guess? then they should have say i ur choices, only in america is there such a thin line between family and importance and duty in people lives.

people know what emory is too in america. i'm not saying choose cornell over emory. i'm saying you're going to have far from a miserable time here at cornell.

I'm not saying that they shouldn't have a choice in their kid's college, but I am saying that they need to realize that the kid is living his/her own life and that the parent isn't vicariously living their own through his/hers.

But parents are allowed to give advice, as long as they don't force it. They've lived some twenty or thirty years more than you and sometimes it helps to listen.

If you're afraid of the workload before even coming here, maybe it isn't for you. Obviously, you should be able to handle the work here as you were admitted, but if you don't come in with the right mentality, you probably won't do too well.

 UR ACTUALLY ASKING THIS QUESTION!!!

If it helps, Emory is a place set up by Illegal Ivory Trader where all Ivy rejects go. DUH!!! Cornell

worst question I have ever heard..or at least one of the worst..please get off the Cornell thread..it is insulting

I find the post by Anonymous99 insulting :( I think everyone in the US at least think that Cornell is an IVY. If it's not, then what is it?

Cornell's ivy league status is undeniable. People are just ignorant and are unaware that the ivy league was formed as an athletic league, not necessarily an academic league. Anonymous, people who don't know Cornell is an ivy league school probably aren't qualified to come here anyways. Cornell is a better school than emory, period. If you want to go to emory, then go there, but don't regret turning down Cornell because of warmer weather and fear of hard academics for the rest of your life.

I love Emory! I'm also from Atlanta so I'm probably biased toward the hometown school. But seriously, Atlanta is way better than Ithica and the reputation of Emory is not far behind Cornell. I think your opportunities after graduation have more to do with what you do during college (gpa, activities, research etc.) than where you actually go. I'm picking Brown over Yale and I have no regrets. Go with what you feel is right!

Honestly guys...they're both GREAT colleges. There's no reason to nitpick at them and say that one is better than the other. They're both cool and they both have their record and strengths. For the poster who found my post insulting, sorry. Please realize that any "proEmory" person here probably finds just about every post here insulting...ASP's especially. All aside, from where I come, people have literally never heard of Cornell. Someone I talked to thought that Northwestern was an Ivy League school...show's his ignorance.

OP, I think the question we need to ask is what you wish to study or do in college. Rather than just saying that Cornell is better than Emory or that Emory is better than Cornell, we need to know what specifically you want to do because both of these schools have their strengths and weaknesses.

I am glad to see such intense school spirit for all of your proCornell posters.

Anyways, keeping the arugement going for all of you stubborn posters, the OP sounds like he would be happier in Atlanta for settling than at Ithica. I honestly believe that Emory probably has better placement and doors in the Atlanta area than Cornell.

I did not mean to offend you Anonymous99, so don't get me wrong :)
anyways, I know that Cornell and Emory are both good schools, and the most important thing is that you should choose where your heart wants you to go (in other words, go to the place where you are more comfortable)

^^agreed!

10 char

you'll only be allowed at Cornell if you can spell the town it's in correctly. Ithaca!!! ;)
