Emory Rankings

Emory is ranked 17th in the nation by USNEWS. But
my question is why do so many other world university rankings rank Emory so poorly?

For example, this website ranked Emory as 90th.

Coca cola stock helps usnwr rankings.

ugh, so much misinformation. World rankings are heavily skewed by grad reseach… that is why schools like UW-madison or Pudue or NYU (schools ranked much lower than Emory in USNEWS) do really well in World Rankings… schools like Brown and Dartmouth are often ranked out of the top 100 in world rankings because they are primarily undergraduate focused schools with less emphasis on reasearch. For this simple reason, schools like Emory, Brown, Dartmouth tend to do not as well in World Rankings.

Thanks for the info.

@ alam, i noticed that your from Toronto. I am also Canadian. I got accepted into McGill and i was wondering if it would be worth paying ~65k to go to Emory over McGill. I am studying Engineering or Life Sciences. Thanks

the reason emory is higher than schools like Georgetown is it’s endowment which is a big part of the rankings in usnwr. That’s what I was trying to say.
Not that emory doesn’t deserve the ranking. That’s just why it has it

65K? I thought it was 53-55K which is still a lot of money. But if you are interested in engineering, I don’t know if you should come here given that we do not have an engineering school. I’d imagine that you could do the dual degree programs with Georgia Tech (or just go to Georgia Tech in the first place).

I personally like small to mid sized universities… I like the one on one attention, the friendly professors and the great student to faculty ratio… at Emory, from what I know, I will get that. From Mcgill, U of T, UBC, Queens , its hard to get such an intimate university experience since the classes are like 200 students (U of T has some classes with 500+ students)… I would not be able to learn in an environment like that. Plus, Emory’s endowment is like the 15th highest(around 5 billion for 12000 students) in the world or something like that(I believe only Oxbridge and some US schools have higher ones) and so the facilities will be much, much , much better than Mcgills(whoser endowment is not even 1 billion and this is for like 30000 students) and also any other Canadian university’s. If you want an enjoyable college experience, I would say Emory is definitely worth it over those universities.

BUT, this is a big BUT… if your family will suffer financially if you pay 65 k for Emory, then go to Mcgill.

World rankings aren’t relevant to undergrad. USNEWS is undergraduate rankings.

Emory has a 2-3 program with Georgia Tech, and if you are interested in Biomedical engineering, the program is ranked #2.
