Any thoughts on how strict the Emory Scholars' word count of 750 is? The Common App supplement's essays specifically said "no more than 250" while the Scholars app just says "brief essay (750 words)".

I’m sure it’s not that strict–word counts for college essays never are. It’s more of a loose guideline of what the length should be. It would just be plain silly if the Nomination Committee based their decision on whether someone was 20 words below/above the word count. (My own essay was 731).

I definitely remember going almost 40 words over the 250 word limit in my “Why Emory” essay. I just said my love for Emory can’t be limited to 250 words.

I wouldn’t worry about it. :)
