Are applicants who are nominated by their secondary schools as "Emory Scholars" usually accepted?
Just wondering.
Thanks!

Just because you are nominated does not necessarily mean that you will be admitted. If the student is qualified enough to get in, then they will. Imagine if an unqualified student applied, they would stand no chance

"If a student is qualified enough to get in, then they will"

Unfortunately, it's not all about qualifications in a school that accepts under 28% of applicants....Do you think that the 72% of those who weren't admitted weren't qualified?

Emory, like all other top 20 privates, has certain goals and needs to fill their class. Demographically, ethnically, geographically and otherwise, they will admit those that they need to fulfill those needsand goals. If you think differently, you are going to be in for some serious disappointment, especially if you are applying RD. (and that goes not just for Emory....)

Now, if you can figure out what those goals and needs are, you can better assess your chances (or lack of them, if that is the case).

There was a study in the New York Times a couple of weeks ago with the admittance rate to many schools from specific states. It was very enlightening and would provide alot of insight if it was available to all who applied.

No. Becoming an Emory Scholar is competitive, and there are tiers. You can get full scholarship, or be 2nd tier and just have full tuition, or 1/2 tuition, so on and so forth.

I know that the nomination will not secure admission. However, does it help considerably, little, or not at all?

I mean everyone who is applying to be an Emory Scholar is nominated by their high school, so...not really.

Each high school can nominate 4 students - getting the nomination shouldn't be too hard, unless your school is ridic.

Being nominated for Emory Scholars is the minimum requirement.

You then need to fill out the seperate application for Emory Scholars and hope that you can make it to semifinalist, which pretty much means that you’re accepted.

gretchen: you’re a senior? then you’s sol. most private universities admissions deadline is already past. are you a junior?
