Forget my post from two days ago… midnight last night I received an email with very generous award information, so I hope yours is released too!!! Best of luck
thanks! I hope to hear back soon. @annamichelle
@littlebig98 If you haven’t already, I would call the financial aid office and have them look at your account. My award was only a few days late when I called, and it turns out I was missing a document. They let me submit it that day without a penalty and I got a pretty generous award. Can’t hurt to make sure you got everything in?
Hey guys, so I’m trying to specialize my extracurriculars because I’m trying to transfer to Emory for Fall 2019 Semester
So far I’m in
AED (not initiated yet but will be)
WISE (A club geared towards women in STEM)
Hall Crew (It’s a club where we put on activities for dorms)
I’m also a Desk Assistant (Work-study)
Japanese Club (I’m not sure if I will continue this ).
None of these are very time consuming though
I’m looking into trying to mentor kids that are in situations where college doesn’t seem like a reality because I come from the same background.
I’m also trying to get into research next semester/ or tutoring Biology
Are these pretty good? I know I should specialize in extracurriculars and make it pertain to the field I want to enter but I don’t know if this is good enough
Does anyone have any input on where I can search for extracurriculars related to STEM that are feasible for a Freshman college student?
Thank you!
You should start a 2019 Transfer thread.
@Needmoreec : Please find things that you actually want to do and NOT just things that will impress Emory adcoms. There are a multitude of things you can get involved in that may lay a foundation for participation at Emory or wherever you wanna transfer. It doesn’t need to be “feasible” for a freshman to gain tons of headway. It may also help to demonstrate and academic/intellectual passion (via ECs or essays). Emory seems to really like those types lately, as it should (probably wants to admit freshmen and transfers who are very much there for unique and strong intellectual and academic oppurtunities as much or even more so than EC opps…Almost any school will offer a wide array of EC opps). Either way, do things for yourself and not Emory. Don’t contrive or feel pressured to do more just to impress Emory. Maybe contribute more to what you are already involved in or come up with your own ideas if you legitimately want to be more involved. Most adcoms will understand that freshman year is a transition where students are learning to juggle ECs, social lives, and academics. Either way, if you have the academic qualifications cannot sell to Emory what you already do or enjoy, maybe Emory will miss out and is not a fit. Become more involved if you have time because you want to.
We’re you able to transfer to Emory? I have similar stats to you and would appreciate your advice
