Hello, I just wanted to know what my chances of making it into UNC as a transfer student. I would like to transfer my sophomore and attend school for the 2017-2018 academic year.
I have family that live in NC, so I don’t think I would be paying out of state tuition
School: Hampton University
Year: Freshman
High School GPA: 3.8
Major: Biology Pre-Medicine
Extra curricular: Any community service, Red Cross, Biology Club, Marching Band
I hope to join AFROTC
This thread came a bit early, but no worries! You’ll start to see more prospective transfers come out of the woodworks in a few months from now (when their fall semesters are over with.)
Good luck with your semester and keep those grades up

What are my chances?
@johnpfc3 you seem to have strong chances, since you have a high projected GPA, and are go to a school that in generally considered more academically prestigious.
My question for you: Why do you want to transfer from Emory? I am wondering since I plan to apply to transfer their(along with UNC, UMI, Vanderbilt, and Cornell) and wanted to know your take on the university.
Also-feel free not to answer this if it make you uncomfortable- but I am also wondering how the financial aid was for you at Emory, since I am worried about it.
@HopefullyIGetIn I dont mind answering. Part of the reason is the money actually. I did not get any financial aid at Emory and it is a very expensive school to finance. Even UNC’s OOS tuition will be $20k/year less than here. Also, UNC (I got waitlisted, then rejected last year) was the top choice for me from the beginning since I wanted a big state school with a good sports program and business school. Emory does have a reputable b-school, but its finance program (I want to go into i-banking) is weaker than I intended and many more reputable firms hire more kids at UNC than at Emory (according to my sibling whose in UNC KF). Also the environment here is not fun either. There are few restaurants, clubs, and events in the area and you have to uber to everything. It can get really boring during the week and it is very competitive here and needlessly difficult. In short, UNC will give me more bang for my buck and a more authentic college experience. Message me if you want to know more!
CC GPA: 3.52
High School GPA: 3.3
ACT: 25
SAT: 1550 of of 2400

Are my chances too slim? I would like to transfer as a junior.
Thank you all in advance and happy holidays!
@coffeeallday , you seem to have reasonable chances since it looks like you have strong EC’s.
My stats(chance me):
Prospective Junior
Majors: Economics & Political Science
College: Top 60 public college
GPA: 4.0
ECs: intern at congressman’s office, president of two clubs, student mentor at local high school, part time job
SAT: 1390/1600
High School: very bad-I think a 3.0 maybe- but good amount of AP classes
I am re-applying this year. Last year I was wait listed with a 2.28 cumulative but a upward trend of 3.53 for my last 45 credits. Hopefully get in this round. I had a rough time starting school years ago right out of high school. I have went from a 1.62 to a 2.52. I did change my major along the way. I had a good essays and good letters of recommendations.
(2006-2010) 75+ attempted hours 1.625
(2014-2016) 77+ attempted hours alot retakes and some classes non needed just to get my gpa up enough.

I feel last time I was not showing enough evidence to show I had what it takes and stand apart I suppose. In addition I was a junior in amount of credits with no math, foreign languages, and some others not completed. I have finished everything but the foreign language requirements.

Looks like your solid from what I see, but I am not sure how last year’s turned out. Being out of state is a disadvantage applying to UNC for sure. Just make sure you have an essay that truly does not stand apart and get the point across as to why UNC is for you. Don’t be generic, which is easy to do. Use the additional information section if needed.
Question for anyone is anyone that was accepted or applying submitting a resume?
If you are transferring from a 4-year university you can transfer up to 75 hours while that number is less if you are transferring from a community college, and they determine the school type from the last institution attended. Does that count summer classes? I was thinking about lightening my load for this semester and taking my chemistry lab in the summer at a local cc but I want as many hours as possible to transfer. Anyone know if summer classes factor into this?
They should still transfer as well. Since you have to turn in all college coursework regardless of grades (all). They will send an email in march most likely to turn in all transcripts. Here is the email from last year.
Thank you again for applying to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. As we begin our review of your application for admission, we write with a friendly reminder to all of our transfer applicants about the requirement to submit to us all transcripts of any college coursework in your educational history. This includes coursework that you have completed and even courses from which you withdrew, regardless of whether or not you believe this coursework would transfer to UNC.
The reason that we require all transcripts from the educational history of our transfer applicants is that we need to confirm all applicants’ eligibility to return to previous institution(s). Having these records on file is one way that we do our part to ensure the safety of our community, which is our first priority.
Later in the year, after decisions are announced, we will compare our list of admitted transfer students with a report from the National Student Clearinghouse. This comparison alerts us to any transcripts that may be missing from our files. If we offer you admission and later determine that your file is missing a transcript, we will need you to request that this transcript (or transcripts) be sent to us immediately. Having an incomplete file may delay the ability of our admitted students to register for classes and in some cases may result in the cancellation of their enrollment.
Again, this reminder is kindly meant, as in the majority of these cases, the failure to provide a missing transcript is an honest mistake. Please help us do our part to maintain the safety of our community by complying with this requirement.
