EMORY University class of 2012 Early Decision

do you live in a state where a lot of people apply?

What did I do wrong? I can understand being deferred from the college’s standpoint, but rejected? That means that u think the stupid has no chance in regular decision. I mean I obviously show interest in the school and I believe I am a well qualified individual, why am I not at least deferred? This question will haunt me for a while. I am going to ask my college counselor how to go about asking an admission’s officer why I wasn’t deferred. Is that unreasonable to ask?

I live in Missouri. Whether a lot of ppl apply from Missouri or not I don’t know. I wouldn’t think too many ppl apply from MO though.

Am I being selfish and a cry-baby or do I actually have a legitimate concern?

Maybe they thought that Emory was not your first choice, just a back up? Who knows.

a backup? 4 ED? How would they think that?

I don’t think my profile would make me a backup, if anything a was a match or a reach/match.

The admission process at selective colleges is seems arbitrary sometimes. I wouldn’t take it as a personal judgment. It might have been the case that they had accepted too many people from your geographical region or with similar extracurriculars or something along those lines. They can’t have a class with 1250 students who are all the same, even if they are all qualified. And, they’re not going to accept their entire incoming class through ED.

On a side note, someone said that they were not deferring admission for anyone during ED this year. I think I heard that as hearsay, not from someone in the admission office. However, the person had an email from an admission counselor that stated just that fact. I think it was on here somewhere if anyone cares to dig back a month or so.

This comment goes back to comments made two pages ago. I have spoken with the Emory counselors, and met with them several times, and one told me that last year at Emory he can remember over 5 (that he read apps for)students being accepted with stats around a 1190 cr+math. So there is really no such thing as too low when you have an excellent package to present. If the rest of the package isnt excellent then I agree that makes an extremely long shot even longer. I know there where some other holes in my application, and my presentation could have been better…but as far as what the counselors have said - there is no too low for Emory (even though common belief says there is) If people have made it in with those stats then it just goes to show that the application is a total package, if your lacking in one, make sure you more than make it up in the others, I should have taken more of this into consideration before pushing send that day… But this is a time for celebration not arguements and bashing…I am so happy for all of you, and again I wish you the best of luck :)

congrats to everyone! I’ll post here if I find out I’m accepted in January (which I’m hoping for, because of scholars), but if not, then in March or whenever regular decision comes out.

Has anybody been able to get on learnlink yet? I’ve already got the CD in the mail, but says I have an incorrect password.

Hi jmw. My S found out he was accepted on line Friday night. He has not yet received anything by way of hard copy letter, etc.. in the mail. Did the CD did you refer to also come up the acceptance material ? Thanks. Marc

Yeah, it all comes in this mini folder that says Congratulations, has acceptance letter, info about what learnlink is, early decision agreement card, est. finaid package, and a cd.

“from personal experience i know that many kids who start there sucuumb to the pressures of partying and flunk out. probably a product of their parents pushing them too hard to fit the mold that emory seeks.”

…WOAH THERE WOMAN, don’t even joke like that because YOU are a parent, a parent who may have gone to emory when fanny packs and overalls were “IN”, but most definitely not a parent who goes to emory NOW. Sure, emory has had a party reputation, but it’s definitely no where near as it was back then. Emory kids work hard, play hard. We do what what it takes to get the grades and even if you do get a low gpa your first semester, you’re most likely going to do a hell of a lot better the second semester because we learn from our mistakes. We’re not a state school that’ll settle for a 2.0 every semester. More importantly, how the CRAP are you going to say **** like that about emory when obviously you, your husband, AND your son have gone here??? I hope your daughter’s moved on because, honestly, she hasn’t even entered college where it actually begins.

BTW, have we determined that no-one got deferred? Does anyone else think that is weird for a school that emphasizes demonstrated interest so much???

From 8:42 pm yesterday:

“On a side note, someone said that they were not deferring admission for anyone during ED this year. I think I heard that as hearsay, not from someone in the admission office. However, the person had an email from an admission counselor that stated just that fact. I think it was on here somewhere if anyone cares to dig back a month or so.”

dgebll: yea, I saw that, but earlier in a thread it said that there were apparently going to be deferrals…Back in Sept. we attended an info session in NJ where the admissions people said point blank, “no deferrals” from ED…

I think it is really strange also. I emailed them to verify if they deferred apps this year or not. On their website, it says they deferrs ppl.

Yea, I feel like they decided this year not to defer people, because of the number and quality of applicants. The more I think about it, the more I feel like I’ve heard that from multiple sources, but I just can’t be sure. Let us know if you hear back from the office.

i’ll post what I find
