Hi! I am a high school senior, planning on majoring in Computer Science, and I have been trying to decide on a college to go to. So far, I think my top choices, based on where I have been accepted are:
-Oxford College at Emory
-Emory University
-Rutgers University (New Brunswick)
-Stevens Institute of Technology
-Purdue University (Main Campus)
I was wondering if anyone who has attended or has any experience with these colleges could give me some input on how they felt about these schools. It would really help me make a better, and more informed decision on where to go. While cost is important to me, I am looking to hear more about the professors, campus life, and anything along those lines.
Net price at each, and how much debt would you need at each?
Emory’s CS offerings appear to be more limited than the CS offerings of the other schools you listed.
@randomqs Current Emory student here. Even though Emory is a great school, idk if I would recommend it for CS. Because of its proximity to Georgia Tech, many of its math-related majors aren’t as strong due to the Emory-Tech connections. If you are unsure about CS, Emory may be a pretty good choice.
Oxford is for those who want a more intimate learning experience for the first two years while Emory is more like a research university. Emory is a school that has a bit of everything - a party scene, non-party scene, etc. The professors are pretty good (we have some famous ones like Ono of the math department and I think Sanjay Gupta is a professor here as well).
my cost for attendance at rutgers is about 28K, Stevens is 51K, but in that I got into their 4+1 masters program, which I would probably do an mba, oxford is 66K, which I am hoping to bring down by talking to financial aid representatives. For each college, I would have to take out a loan, but a smaller one if I went to Rutgers.
How big a loan at each? Note that you can only borrow $5,500 first year without a cosigner.
Yes, my parents would be taking out the loan, and we would only be able to pay 10K, so the rest would be in loans
If any of you could also talk about:
-NJIT (8K tuition)
-RIT (35K)
-RPI (44K)
