Trying to decide between U Southern California, Oxford @ Emory, and Emory U. I'm not sure what I want to major in, but i'm interested in CS and econ/polysci/business. (from RI)
USC: - largest of the three, which i like
-NM scholarship
-good CS
-urban
-good location for job recruiting
-good comp sci, econ, etc
Emory: - love the feel
-ok size
-bad cs/econ
-generally thought of as better (i think?)
-more of a NE connection
-most expensive option
Oxford @ Emory: -too small
-same things as w/ emory
-poor location
-cheapest option

Oxford’s CS offerings are quite limited although it has pretty solid offerings in your other fields of interest. I would take off Oxford since it doesn’t sound like you’d enjoy the intense community fostered by its small size and rural location. Are both USC and Emory affordable?

both Emory and USC are affordable, but USC would be cheaper

bump what are the differences as far as the student body?

I’m not convinced there’s much of a difference between the student bodies of Emory and USC other than where they tend to come from (Emory draw more heavily from the East, USC the West). Perhaps USC students are a bit more attracted to a large state flagship type environment since it seems to market itself as the private alternative to the D1 UCs. Fwiw, a number of my friends at Oxford either considered or applied to USC.

What I think is more important is how the schools mold the students once they get on campus. Any comparison I try to make between the ways the schools shape the students is likely to be flawed since I’ve only talked to two current SC students (one of whom transferred from Oxford to be closer to home) and most of the people I know at Emory Main are Oxford Continuees.
