We are trying to decide which college to enroll Emory vs out of state UNC honors vs out of state UVA Echols scholar for my child.
are the costs similar?
what does your child think?
obviously emory is the smallest where you will get the most individual attention. but the others have more traditional school spirit due to D1 sports.
emory will be more diverse, surprisingly, then both of those state schools. a real strength of Emory, IMO.
Atlanta has more to offer than C-Ville or Raleigh-Durham if urban opportunities are important to your kid. but those other places are not devoid of life.
Personally, I think if I am paying full tuition and it’s pretty equal for all 3, I would expect to get more for my money at the private school in some ways (class size, dorms and food and facilities…).
Major? Can you afford sticker without denting your own retirement?
What is the cost of your instate public? Merit scholly there?
In state public like Georgia Tech is 14000$ per year. Yes got into this also.
First off…congrats!! Extremely impressive for your child.
What do they want to pursue after college and what are the cost comparisons?
I have some insight with all three - graduated from UVA undergrad (daughter there now) went to dental school at UNC (still live in Chapel Hill) and visited Emory with my daughter (who applied there last year).
She is undecided but accepted into college of arts and sciences in all. Cost Emory 55,000, UNC 35,000 and UVA 50,000 for annual tution.
Not enough information such as intended major & whether cost is a concern.
For a traditional college campus with big time sports, Virginia might be best followed by UNC Honors.
Emory if easy access to a major city is preferred.
Georgia Tech if cost is a concern.
Is she leaning in any direction (I.e. business, law, premed)?
And is the cost difference a concern?
I’ll tell you I felt so strongly about UVA that I’m paying OOS for her to go there vs IS at UNC…my daughter wants to work on Wall Street
Not fixed on any majors but does well in mathematics related fields. On applications has intended applied mathematics as interest. Not looking for greek life and sports either.
Not my forte (mathematics) but here’s a ranking of the schools you inquired about based on mathematics departments

Depends upon what Echols at UVA adds as well as the Honors College perks at UNC.
Emory certainly works if sports is not important.
If a quantitative major and not focused on MC or IB, honestly, GTech is hard to beat as the cheapest option. UVa McIntire offers the best path to IB/MC but admission to McIntire is competitive and not assured.
Echols adds special housing options, no core curriculum requirements and the ability to register for classes before everyone else. No honors specific classes
