Emory university

Hi!
I am planning to apply to Emory University and have some questions about it.
I have heard rumors that emory do not have any hot girls. Is this true or do it exist hot girls.
Are the soccer games crowded with people?
How is the facilities?
What is the nightlife like at Emory?

you should post this on the Emory University forum. But here are my inputs:
1. There are hot/ugly girls at any university. However, having gone to a southern high school, I find the female student body at Emory to be less attractive compared to girls at my high school who go to large southern state universities.
2.no, games in general are not crowded with people.
3. facilities, excellent. Everything you'll ever need, everything you'll never need, you'll find it here at Emory
4. Nightlife isn't bad. For me, since I didn't have previous connections with any Emory student, it took me a while to find rides to bars/clubs. However, my friends who knew people were all over Atlanta. I should also note that Emory sponsors (not sure if sponsor is the right word) club nights on most thursdays. There are shuttles that will take you to the club and back. So if you don't know anyone who has a car, and don't want to spend the money on cabs, taking the shuttle on thursday nights to clubs might be an option.

Hope that answers your questions. If you have anymore, just post them on the Emory Forum.

Emory is the most overrated univ in the South, completely dead campus, w/ little spirit. Much better off at Davidson, Vandy, or Rhodes than Coca-Cola U.

My sister goes to Emory. I wasn't really looking at the girls, but there is a large population of Jewish, and a relatively large population of Koreans?

The campus is beautiful, and they have a rocking library.

There are shuttles that go to various clubs like betterday said. Atlanta's a large city, there are tons of things to do.

based on your questions you should be looking at vanderbilt

briantheman,
Vanderbilt no longer has mens soccer (although there is a women's team) so it may not be quite as good a fit for the OP as you think. In fact, there are not many major colleges in the deep South that play soccer well (exceptions include Furman, South Florida). Emory is a Division III school athletically, but has a nationally ranked mens soccer team. However, attendance is slight and rarely goes over a few hundred spectators.

As for Emory’s social life, it depends on what you are looking for. The Emory social scene is greatly influenced by the social scene of Atlanta. There is plenty to do and students can find a great breadth of social opportunities in that city, but the campus social scene is not as vivacious. As a point of reference, Emory's social scene is more like its northern/midwestern peers (Columbia, U Penn, Wash U, Johns Hopkins, Carnegie Mellon, Tufts) than it is like the other top southern universities to which it is often compared (Vanderbilt, Duke, Tulane).

word of caution, i wouldn't rely too much on what charlie's world says since he seems to have made it his mission to take shots at emory and assert that the same three schools are better than emory (like 5 identical posts).

amadani has some free time on his hands, very good. I am not a big Emory fan, b/c of the lack of school spirit and the dead campus, a fact supported by others. I list those three southern schools b/c they have what Emory lacks in this regard, but if you want I'll include Sewanee (in all posts now)and could add a few VA LACs. cs55 wanted some unabashed opinion on Emory-- share w/ him your thoughts. I did not say any of these southern schools were "better" than Emory, just they may have what one might want from that his or her college that Emory lacks.

My D is a sophomore and loves Emory - great profs, classes, friends, social life, athletics, opportunities, etc. I went to an Ivy and remain very active in that school's alumni affairs and continue to feel Emory has just as much if not more to offer due to its many grad schools, location, affiliation with Carter Center, CDC, etc. I have also been very impressed with speakers it brings to campus. D has been to see Dalai Lama, President Carter, Sandra Day O, and many more. Every week there are intersting speakers if one chooses to take advantage. College is a personal choice so if you are seeking big time athletics, Emory is probably not your choice. However, if you want to enjoy good D3 athletics, you can here. Soccer, tennis and swimming are regularly at the top of national D3. The league is very competitive. D has many friends on athletic teams and attends their games. She also plays on co-ed IM teams and they are very competitive and fun. Depends on what you are looking for...PM me if you have questions

Appreciated comments mm. I know a school can still be spirited w/o big time athletics, but the four times I visited Emory it just seemed dead.

My best friend goes to Emory and I've visited several times so I think I can comment on this stuff:
There are plenty of hot girls. I mean, it's no USC, but there are plenty.
The soccer games have basically zero people. We walked by one and there couldn't have been more than 40 people in the stands...
The facilities are great. The DUC is excellent and the gym is really nice.
Nightlife, on the nights that I have stayed there, has been great. The frat parties are a lot of fun and open, and the Atlanta nightlife (especially the five-points area and buckhead) is great. I've visited friends at Auburn, UNC, and UGA, and Emory was more fun than AU and UNC and almost as fun as UGA.
Just my opinion.
I'm applying too!!!

Also, about school spirit, I saw very little sports spirit, but there's plenty of school spirit. They were having a battle of the dorms with this like funny song competition and everyone got really into it. Also, everyone there really likes Emory and stuff. And, students get discounts at GaTech games if you have to have sports...

clearly everyone has a different opinion on schools but you probably shouldnt listen to someone who so adamently dislikes a school for reasons u might hate.

i am going to emory next year and i completely disagree with him. as for the party scene, he could not be more wrong. yes it is small, but that means nothing. decataur is minutes from atlanta and people go out and have fun all the time. and as for your hot girls question, i'm not gonna lie i think thats a pretty retarded thing to base your college decision on. if you care how hot girls are, you're probably going to be better off at some public university and a less academically challenging school.

and yeah emory is in no way dead. have u never heard of dooley's ball? ive visited 3 times, one in particular when i spent the night, and there was so much. it's a pretty hard school though so if uve visited during the day, im sure ppl were probably studying... i think thats a pretty safe assumption.
