My gen chem prof. is not there anymore… Dr. Parker at Oxford is extremely difficult for gen chem, but the others are very managable for getting B’s. Not many received A’s… I had Campbell for the summer in 2009 btw… and escobar for 142 (which was very doable). Campbell’s bio 370 microbio was graded a lot harder than intro. Overall, I thought bio was the easiest out of all the sciences for pre-med. Avoid Dr. Weeks for physics…

Wow, pecosim24, you dodged a bullet. Everyone complained about fall 141 last year (except those with Escobar). 142 had some weird inflation/standardization last year because others were too lazy to make their own tests, so it was easy. It was also easy my freshmen year. I took physics 151 already lol. While easier than what it should have been b/c of the profs., it was still tougher than 141. But I think I saw Weeks answer keys, and it appears his tests certainly gave Bing’s a run for the money, if you took it in the Fall, then you had a tough line-up. Neither Roth, Bing, or Weeks were that easy. Many struggled in their classes.

Oh, and people are going into Campbell’s microbiology class this year thinking it’s really easy (one person only had her for a seminar). Should I give them a heads up?

I would… the tests are 40% multiple choice, 60% short answer. The MC is easy, but the short answer is graded ridiculously hard. Also, my friend who just took campbell for 142 in the summer got something stupid like a 97, and she strongly advised him not to take it in the fall, as its not campbell grading the tests this semester. It’s some new guy. Cambell will be taking full control over the class in the spring. I would not take the course. Definitely not an easy A. With effort, a B is doable, but I wouldn’t risk it…

It would be funny if we had the same friend, but mines is an NBB major and is not interested in taking micro as far as I know. But yeah, I think that was the format of her exams when she taught 142 my freshman year. I think she had grad. TAs grade it.

my friend is a bio major… I had Grant as a TA. Thought he knew everything. He was very very smart, but he annoyed me. I had Campbell regrade a test, and she had graded it initially. They might have split the grading up. I would totally avoid micro no matter what. The course was boring too. Microbial genetics are just not that fascinating to me.

This is a no brainer. Emory is by far superior to Oxford in all ways. If you visit the campuses you will find that the Emory campus has completely updated facilities and Oxford facilities are pathetic. Just take a look at the science classrooms and labs. The Oxford labs are worse than a high school science lab. World renowned faculty teach at Emory, which is not the case at Oxford. Admission to Oxford is a cake walk. They accept almost everyone that applies and still take students that are waitlisted or denied at Emory. A friend’s little brother was denied at Emory and then Oxford accepted him in April after getting the application from Emory. This seems desperate. Oxford is the equivalent of a community college with the benefit of going to Emory after two years. There is a perception with Emory students that Oxford is a backdoor to an Emory education.
