Hi, I'm a high school senior and I recently got accepted to Emory and UCLA. Which school is a better choice if I'm planning to go pre-med? Financially, Emory has offered me 42k per year, so I'd pay roughly 5.5k out of my own pocket, while UCLA has offered me a full ride. Also, I live in Los Angeles, so it's obviously less costly to go home if I choose UCLA.

Well Emory is definitely renown for its Pre-Med program…its really up there…

I dont know too much about UCLA but i think theyre pretty good too…

I would say go to Emory…just because im going there :)

UCLA is a great school. Emory is a great school too. Emory’s ranked a little higher, its private, it’s also very expensive. Since you’d only be paying 5.5k a year, that’s honestly not bad at all. You could get your entire education here (worth 160k) for 22k. Now, do you wanna stay at home? When I went to college I wanted to get away. Atlanta is an amazing city and if you think you’d enjoy it here, come visit and check it out.

You’ll get a great education at UCLA or Emory. You’ll easily get into med school from both places too. I actually have a friend at UCLA and from what I can tell they grading policies/test are slightly easier than here. Emory does not have grade inflation at all. They test tough and they weed out. So UCLA might actually be easier to get into med school. Either way, visit the colleges. The only person who can tell if its right for you is you. Either place you’ll get a great education. So go to the place where you’ll have more fun/enjoy your college experience.

UCLA is nice, but Emory offering 42k a year? Definitely go to Emory

Emory is the better choice, but make no mistake… the UC schools are not overrated. UCLA is excellent, so no need to worry about that. Emory will give you the best college experience (small liberal arts college), plus the great adventure of living in a different part of the country.

Since the OP posted this in 2011, he’s hopefully made his choice by now.

Dang, I wish they would close these old posts. Plus, I blew it by calling Emory a small liberal arts college.

I need a second cup of coffee. :-S
