Hi,
So far I am very torn as to which school I would like to attend. I visited both the campus' and like them both very much. I got some more money at Villanova than I did at Emory, but not enough that it would significantly play a role in my decision.

I plan to pursue Business Administration with a minor in Finance or some other close variation of that. I would like to work in New York City though straight out of college. I might choose to go for an MBA after a few years of work but I don't have my heart set on that.

Basically my question is which school would give me the best options as long as I perform well. This can be in terms of recruitment, preperation, internships, and especially the networking opportunities at the school. Also if you have any insight on the social scene I would appreciate that too.

Thank You

What do we know we’re just random people. If you want to trust the “proffesionals” over at Businessweek they ranked Emory’s school of Business 3rd in the country and Villanova’s 9th in the country. I personally like Villanova more because the social scene fits me better. It is 20 min from Philly which is the 5th biggest city in the country and only 2 hours from NY.

The social scene at Villanova is really good.

They are both good schools, but Villanova is closer to NYC, which is where you want to work. Villanova’s social scene is great.

Emory. If you were to choose between emory and vanderbilt, then we might have to argue about it. but Emory vs Villanova, there’s no competition

Thanks for the advice, would appreciate some more opinions

As always with stuff like this, it depends on you. What made you apply to these schools in first place? You can be successful coming from either one of them, it’s just a matter of where you prefer to spend the next few years.

Me personally, I prefer Nova, but then again, I’m biased.

Given that both are of high quality I might let the location be the tie breaker. You seem pretty certain you want to work in NYC. Nova is more conveniently set up for you to do that. Plus, there are tons of alums all over the place in that area.

Good luck.

hate doing this…bump.

I would pick Nova. VSB is a recruiting target for top firms in philly, 3rd to UPenn and Princeton, but still ahead of Drexel, Temple, SJU, PU etc.

Cant find work in philly? No problem, NYC is just 50 miles away. Nova has an amazing rep in the mid-atlantic (thanks to large catholic presence, and big east basketball). Emory has a better reputation nationally but VSB grads would take favor over Emory grads in NYC.

However, business in Atlanta really boomed in the past decade, low cost of living and plethora of oppurtunity compared to the NJ/NY attracted a lot of business people there. Something to consider. And keep in mind, finding work in NYC will mean competing with NYU, Columbia, Penn, Princeton, possibly other ivy grads. Emory is pretty much the top gun in the way south east.

At Emory you apply to their b-school(Goizueta) ur sophomore year and start junior year. Regardless, I would pick Emory! :)it’s in ATL which is awesome…you should be able to find internships easily :)

Nova. Proximity to NYC and next door to Philly. Lots of finance related culture.

I’m going to have a little fun with chocalatenutz now –

Chocolatenutz – “Emory vs Villanova, there’s no competition” You are correct! Nova is ranked #1 and Emory is ranked… what… #20?

This is a good point. If you go to Emory there’s no guarantee you’d actually make it into the business school. You’d have to compete for a spot after you are there. At Nova you’d be in for sure.
