It's not the very best school by far by any means, but it could be said that Emory is a pretty school with pretty good reputation. It is located in a good city, but other than as a student who never visited Atlanta and Emory, I have no idea or can't see a reason why I should attend there?

The academics are well respected. If you’re looking at the sciences, the facilities are absolutely amazing. The campus is gorgeous. The city of Atlanta is cultural, diverse, and quite fun.

well, i thought about that, but i also thought that like many other kids i would just apply since i already filled my commonap..

but my friends have been saying it’s an awesome school and I said to myself that it wouldn’t do any danger to me to learn an another cool college

“Cool” is very subjective. If you’re looking at schools of Emory’s quality, then there are probably plenty of other schools with the same academic reputation that are very different from Emory. Maybe you should look at some of those rather than worrying about Emory. There’s no need to force it. If you don’t like Emory, you don’t like Emory. There’s nothing wrong with that.

Your question is like (this isn’t an attack on Columbia, just chose another school in a city):

Columbia, why would u want to go there, other than its reputation?
It’s not the very best school by far by any means, but it could be said that Columbia is a pretty school with pretty good reputation. It is located in a good city, but other than as a student who never visited New York and Columbia, I have no idea or can’t see a reason why I should attend there?

I think of Emory as more of a grad school than an undergraduate institution. Emory’s Business Graduate School is one of the top ones in the country.

I think the OP is just fishing for something to put in his “Why Emory” essay. But if Emory isn’t exciting to him, he shouldn’t apply–there are a lot of schools out there that might excite him more. My oldest son spent 4 wonderful years at Emory–it was by far his first choice after he visited, and he applied ED. But at the beginning of his search process, he was all about Tufts–which he hated after he visited. Tufts is a great school, it just didn’t excite him/wasn’t right for him.

Students shouldn’t go around trying to shoehorn themselves in to schools like a square peg in to a round hole–if the fit isn’t quite feeling right, there are a lot more better fit alternatives out there.

Actually Emory’s graduate business school is good, but its outside the top 20.

Reasons to like Emory:
Beautiful Campus
Nice size
Quality reputation
Weather
Good research access
Strong endowment (good for grants, etc)

Reasons to not like Emory:
Cliquey student body
Not particularly undergrad oriented
Not among the top 15 schools when it comes to grad placement or recruiting
Not much school spirit (Emory kids in my experience aren’t super friendly, not do they really care about any sort of “Emory bond”)

wow no offense but you guys are all way off.

emory has one of the best undergraduate business programs and premed programs in the nation. it also has nationally ranked chemistry programs and other various science programs.

i would very much disagree about the cliquey student body, it is small but not cliquey. Other schools are much worse about that, such as vanderbilt.
and u couldnt be more wrong about not being undergrad oriented, once again. you should really visit and research before u base such horrible claims about emory. and id also disagree about spirit and the super friendly thing. when i was accepted, I recieved like a hundred messages from kids i didnt even know congratulating me and a bunch more from current emory students wishing me luck. and as for spirit, though there isnt much sport action i’ll admit, there is definitely a TON of stuff to do. emorys endowment is VERY large and it allows for a lot of amazing campus activities.

basically im just wondering why ur even considering it if u dont think highly of it… (although im wondering how u could think negativiely on one of the top 20 schools in the nation. hell i know a guy that didnt get in with a 2300, 19th in his class going to the best public school in the state, and with a **** load of extra curriculers.. it is not just a decent school)

I have a D at Emory and can not say enough about the school. I went to an Ivy and feel she is getting every bit, if not better, an education. Her relationships with her profs rival those at any LAC, opportunities for research abound, the speakers, performances are amazing…I can go on and on and on. PM me if you want to know specifics. That said, if you don’t like it, don’t apply.
