Hello, all:
I am admitted to Emory in the ED round. I live in Canada and most people here have never heard of Emory. I also checked many different university rankings and they all say differently about Emory. I am just wondering how American people regard Emory…Is it really believed as #21 as US News ranked? Thank you!!
Emory is an outstanding university, considered one of the best in the Southeast US. Congratulations on your accomplishment. Very exciting. Atlanta is a cool city too.
@miranda02206
Well you are international, so it would make sense that the people around you would only know the schools with bid division 1 brands and ivy+ schools. Remember than Emory does not have big sports. Emory is highly regarded and prestigious. I myself a student is surprised at how well represented Emory is in some “well to do” industries like wall street. Remember that your peers probably wouldn’t know what Bowdoin, Williams, Amherst, and Tufts are. Those are certainly prestigious.
Easy answer - Emory doesn’t play big time sports.
Congratulations on your admission to Emory. The people who know colleges beyond sports understand that Emory is a great school. Enjoy and good luck.
Emory is very well known and highly respected institution here in the U.S. You have to remember that only the very few top and elite schools are recognized around the world by the general public.
@TiggerDad Thank you! Very good point.haha
@rickle1 Thank you for answering me!! I am definitely excited about going to Atlanta!
@ljberkow @VANDEMORY1342 : Right, I didn’t think about the sports hahah Thank you for the info
Emory is a highly respected institution and Atlanta a great city! Congrats!!
hahaha, don’t worry about emory’s prestige or reputation. i’m from the south, and people here either think stanford is in the ivy league or have simply never heard of it. emory’s a great school. congratulations!
@WilliamNYC Thank you!
@kalons hahaha! That’s so extreme!! I get you. I really need to stop obsessing over reputation.
Emory isn’t as old as some prestigious universities - in particular the Ivy League universities.
Emory doesn’t have high profile Division I athletics unlike some newer, well known universities such as Duke.
Out of curiosity, why did you apply to Emory as an international student?
What had you heard about Emory that made you want to commit ED1 to Emory?
@BiffBrown
A lot of students at my school want to go to US universities, me too. TBH, I wanted to get accepted early because I was really stressed out. I thought I had a good chance getting into Emory and it was ranked #20( which is a competitive ranking)+It also has programs and opportunities that I am interested in, so…Looking back now, I think I could’ve aimed slightly higher…
But anyway, I already committed!
Atlanta is a fine city, most likely getting the eastern Amazon headquarters. And Emory is an excellent institution.But @kalons is off the mark- southernors are not fools, Stanford is well known, and no, they dont think its part of the ivy league. There are the occasional few who confuse Samford and Stanford which is amusing when people mishear them
@jym626 haha interesting!
@jym626 lol, maybe not where you’re from, but where i’m from, people have either never heard of stanford or think it’s part of the ivy league. i’ve never run into someone who knows what stanford is without having to tell them. cons of being from rural tennessee i suppose, hahaha.
That’s kinda sad, @kalons. But your post made it sound like this was true of all of the south, and that just isn’t so.
@jym626 i mean, i didn’t think did. i guess i should have specified.
@jym626 when I’ve told folks my son is going to Emory… more than one have said “oh, Emory & Henry?” So I guess there can be confusion everywhere :-))
