I know that I would never have time for a job during hs, and personally I think that research is way more fulfilling than working at a restaurant or wherever else hs students can find a job.

Will I appear as a slacker if I have never worked a paid job? Since I honestly don't have the time.

Most of my friends didn’t work during high school.

I had a part-time job from sophomore - senior year and I don’t think it really helped me in admissions. I think your research / unpaid internships are fine. I don’t think most high school students have jobs, but working was a thing that was personally important to me so I did it.

You might consider getting a paid job this summer, though, because it is really nice to not have to ask your parents for spending money during term.

Yeah I’m a junior…and I might be able to get an internship at SLAC this summer (Stanford Linear Accelerator) but honestly I haven’t planned out my summer yet…

So would I just leave the employment section of the app blank? Or do unpaid internships count?

I mean, if you aren’t listing your unpaid internships somewhere else, you could list them under ‘employment’. Otherwise, I’d just leave it blank.

You don’t have to fill in every blank in order to get admitted, you know!

^And for most of these sections, there’s not one magic way of going about filling them out. You should fill them out in the way that presents the stuff you did in the best way, not by following some incredibly strict set of rules that doesn’t exist.
